Chapter 58 Shock
Chapter 58 Shock
Ruan Mianmian also harvested the potatoes. According to the system's prediction, there were about 30,000 jin of potatoes.
In the past, she wouldn't have been able to finish this amount of food even if she had several winters to eat it all. But now, there are so many little beastmen in their tribe, and the winter lasts for four long months, so they can eat as much food as they want.
Since there was nothing left to eat around them, they decided to leave.
Sen and Yu saw that it was still early and asked Ruan Mianmian if she wanted to go somewhere else.
Ruan Mianmian was focused on searching the map, which they interpreted as a goddess deep in thought, and they shouldn't disturb her.
She kept zooming in and out of the map in front of her. Several small red dots were flashing in an area not far from this place, which she saw as unknown dangers.
Although she now had Sen and Yu by her side, who claimed to be quite powerful, she still gave up the idea of continuing her search for food when she saw the two small beastmen who were not even as tall as her.
"Sen, Yu. We've had a good harvest today. I think we should head back to the valley. If the weather is alright for the next few days, we can try looking for food in a different direction."
Perhaps it was too easy for Mori and Yu to find food with the young females, which made them lower their guard.
Upon hearing what the little female said and observing their surroundings, they realized they had been careless.
“Okay, we’ll head back now. It’s alright, we still have time,” Mori said, his words carrying a double meaning.
Seeing that they understood what she meant, Ruan Mianmian didn't say anything more, after all, she had two children with her.
Sen and Yu quickly led them through the forest, and Ruan Mianmian felt relieved as she saw the red dots on the map getting farther and farther away from them.
Sometimes, others may be prey in your eyes, but you may also be prey in their eyes. Who can say for sure?
During her journey, Ruan Mianmian discovered a grapevine that was about to die. She had Tu dig out the roots of the grapevine and returned to the valley to see if it could be saved.
A few small bunches of wild grapes were still hanging on the vine. Ruan Mianmian ate one and immediately felt the sourness in her teeth.
Seeing her like this, everyone in the group laughed; she was just too adorable.
The return journey was faster than expected. While Ruan Mianmian kept checking the map, they had already returned to the valley.
As soon as they entered the valley, the group was surrounded by the little beastmen, who chattered excitedly about what they had done that day. Looking at the piles of straw and dead wood, Ruan Mianmian couldn't help but give them a thumbs up.
These little orcs are really capable.
As she entered the cave, an even bigger surprise awaited her. There, piled against the side of the cave wall, were a cluster of ostrich eggs. No, to be precise, they were what they called "clucking eggs."
It's just a real egg. It's only that in the orc continent, it's grown to the size of an ostrich egg.
Looking at the pile of eggs, Ruan Mianmian, who loves eggs, immediately started drooling.
These past few days, it's been nothing but barbecue. And this is only because things have gotten much better recently; the past few days, eating tasteless barbecue was truly agonizing.
When she sees eggs, she thinks of boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, steamed eggs, tomato and egg, and so on.
"Tu, aren't you tired?"
Tu was telling his friends about his experiences that day when he heard the goddess calling his name.
"I'm not tired. What are your orders, Goddess?"
Hearing Tu say this, a group of little beastmen gathered around. Now, what they liked most was working with the goddess.
"Could you go to the pile of rocks and make me a pot? As for what kind of pot it is, it's a small stone jar, but I need the walls of this small stone jar to be very thin because I need to put it on the fire to heat it up. If it's too thick, it won't heat up easily."
Tu nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite. In his view, pots and stone vats were all created by the goddess, and he should just do whatever she said.
Tu and Yuan led a few more orcs to the pile of rocks. He wanted to make a few more for the goddess to choose from. It has to be said that Tu really had the qualities that leaders in later generations liked. He was very reliable, thoughtful, and considerate of others, which made people feel very at ease.
With the pot ready, the boiled eggs for dinner were sorted. Ruan Mianmian stopped worrying about it and focused on what Sen needed her to do.
"Ruanruan, release a few Moo Moo Beasts out. I'll have the little beastmen slaughter them and store them."
It was still daylight, and many of the little orcs had nothing to do, so Sen thought of getting them moving.
While slaughtering their prey, they are also training them for future survival.
"Hey Sen, those Moo Moo beasts are still alive!" Ruan Mianmian's storage space is static; it looks exactly the same when you take it in as when you take it out.
"Ah, then I'll trouble you to release it again by the lake, and Yu and I will handle it."
Hearing this, they were no longer surprised. They wouldn't be astonished by anything that happened to the little female in the future, after all, it was a miracle!
After releasing a few Moo Moo beasts for the little beastmen to practice on, Ruan Mianmian set her sights on the reeds at the cave entrance.
She found a place to sit down, bought a pair of work gloves from the system store, and then began to weave straw mats.
She was once again truly grateful for those childhood experiences, which allowed her to acquire so many practical skills.
Some of the smaller orcs, having nothing else to do, curiously gathered around as they saw Ruan Mianmian weaving wild grass at the cave entrance.
"Is there anyone who wants to learn? If so, I can teach you."
The little beastmen were utterly astonished.
In the Orcish continent, those with knowledge and skills are all respected great shamans or powerful healers.
If they wanted to learn these skills from them, it would take a lot of effort. Now the goddess is willing to teach them so easily. The goddess is truly wonderful.
Ruan Mianmian first taught them how to braid pigtails. The little beastmen were all skillful children, and they learned it in no time.
Then, after demonstrating the following steps, the little beastmen enthusiastically began to put them into practice.
Before long, one after another exquisite straw curtains were produced.
The little animals excitedly showed their creations to Ruan Mianmian, their eyes filled with a sense of accomplishment.
Ruan Mianmian smiled and praised, "You did a great job! These straw curtains can be used to shield us from wind and rain; they are very practical."
The little animals, praised as they were, became even more enthusiastic about weaving straw mats.
Looking at the busy and happy little beastmen, Ruan Mianmian felt gratified.
She hopes to pass on more skills to them and help them live better lives.
With many hands making light work, the straw curtain was quickly woven. Ruan Mianmian had Kun fly to the top of the cave, then hung one end of the straw curtain on the cave ceiling and laid it around the previously built wall.
Seeing that the outer wall was covered with a layer of straw, the little beastmen smiled happily.
Then Ruan Mianmian led the little beastmen to tie all the straw together again with spider silk, so that it wouldn't be blown away by the cold wind. After all, spider silk is quite strong.
Meanwhile, Sen and Yu led the little beastmen back with the processed Moo Moo beast meat, and it was getting dark.
Everyone clapped their hands happily as they looked at the newly decorated cave.
Zhi emerged from the stone chamber once more. He had divined that the weather would change, so he came out to warn Sen and Yu to be aware of the weather forecast, to hunt in time, and to prepare dry branches for warmth. But as soon as he came out, he saw the straw on the wall.
He was no ordinary orc; he could understand the purpose of these things just by looking at the straw, and once again he was impressed by the goddess's ideas.
The goddess knows far too much.
After closing the cave door at night, a huge bonfire was lit inside, making the cave feel especially warm without any cold wind.
“We will definitely get through this winter safely. Now that the temperature has been stabilized, you should work hard at hunting for the next few days, because the weather will change in a few days and it probably won’t be suitable to go out again.” Zhi sat by the campfire and told Sen and Yu about the results of his divination.
Sen and Yu both looked at Zhi with hesitation, unsure of what to say.
"What's wrong? Is there something you want to discuss with me? The tribe's leader is now a goddess; you should talk to her about anything." Zhi looked at the two of them, assuming they had undecided ideas to ask him as usual.
"No, we have enough food for this winter. Today, the goddess led us to capture a herd of mooing beasts and also found a food called potatoes. There are so many of them that we probably won't be able to finish them even after winter is over."
"What?" Zhi stood up in shock.
