Chapter 140 Chu Wu
Chapter 140 Chu Wu
As dawn breaks, the night's whispers continue, and no one sleeps peacefully.
He Sui sat quietly outside the door, holding a book but unable to read. Xing Ji was preparing congee in the kitchen, occasionally glancing over.
Last night, the Twin Flowers and the Four Ghosts brought back a demon with a weak aura. When Jinghua carried it back, it was its true form, Chu Wu.
Blood flowed from its body, and it was only half an inch away from the heart meridian. When the four ghosts found it, it was hiding in a cave, barely alive.
He used his elusive charm to persuade him to stay until he reached the He residence.
Its breath was so weak it was on the verge of death. Xiang He saw that it had no karmic obstacles and even knew the art of self-cultivation, so he devoted himself to saving it overnight.
"Girl, take a rest..."
Chu Wu, dressed in dark black feathers and wrapped in gauze, sat cross-legged on the bed with his eyes closed. He stopped muttering to himself, frowned a few times, and then opened his eyes.
Sunlight streamed in through the window. Xiang He moved her stiff shoulders, rubbed her eyes, and said, "It's dawn... Help me, my legs are a little numb..."
Jinghua Shuiyue helped her up from both sides. After she adjusted to her legs, Xianghe bent down to check on Chu Wu's injuries. Her breathing had stabilized, but the injuries were too severe, and she would need to rest for some time.
"Let it rest. Let's go out first."
Mirror Flower Water Moon helped her out of the room and thoughtfully closed the door so that their voices wouldn't disturb those inside.
When He Sui'an saw her come out, he reached out and took Shui Yue's place. "Are you badly injured?"
"Hmm, that's a magical artifact; it almost damaged its cultivation." Having not slept all night, he couldn't help but yawn. "So sleepy, I want to go to sleep..."
Jinghua wisely stopped, and He Sui'an helped her to her room, saying, "Go to sleep first, and eat something warm when you wake up."
"Yes, have Jinghua Shuiyue keep a close eye on it and change the dressing frequently."
"Don't worry about it," He Suian said, squatting down to take off her cloth shoes, helping her lie down and covering her with a blanket. "Go to sleep. I can handle anything."
"Um……"
Drowsiness and fatigue overwhelmed me, and I felt a little dizzy. I closed my eyes and soon began to breathe softly.
He Sui'an sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her. He pulled the blanket up a little and gazed at her quietly. His eyes seemed to hold a thousand words, his eyes were gentle yet exceptionally bright, and his lips were adorned with a tender smile.
"Young master, the porridge is ready."
The soft sound was so gentle that it swept away the tenderness of He Sui'an.
She got up and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her with a soft voice, "Go prepare the brush and ink."
"Yes."
The sounds outside the door ceased. Inside the room, Xiang He barely opened her eyes, watching the two figures disappear into the distance. In the blink of an eye, she suppressed the turmoil in her heart, turned over, and fell asleep facing inward.
-
Xiang He slept until the sun was high in the sky. When she woke up, she felt weak all over and her stomach was empty and sunken.
She tried to prop herself up with her hands, but then her body went limp and she collapsed back onto the bed. "Hungry..."
The door suddenly opened, and through blurry eyes, she saw what appeared to be He Sui'an's figure rushing in and helping her sit up.
"what happens?"
Her voice urgent and worried, Xiang He leaned weakly against his shoulder, "I'm hungry..."
The Mirror Flower Water Moon, who had rushed over from behind, stopped in her tracks and looked at Xiang He, unsure of what to say.
"Shuiyue went to the kitchen to bring the porridge."
"Can I have meat...?"
A helpless chuckle escaped her lips. He Sui'an pulled her up by the waist, and couldn't help but pinch her cheek. "Don't eat meat yet. Do you know how many days you've been asleep?"
Feeling dizzy from hunger, Xiang He shook her head to clear her mind. "You slept for three days, which worried everyone terribly."
"What!" Xiang He jumped up in shock, then collapsed weakly into He Suian's arms. She was too exhausted to push him away, so she just nestled in there and forced a laugh, "Are you worried I'd die?"
He Sui'an's eyes flashed with a hint of reproach, "Don't talk nonsense."
"He's awake?!"
Three people outside the door squeezed to come in, and Shen Zhuoci's tall figure stood at the very back, so he could see inside without having to stand on tiptoe.
"He'er is finally awake. You have no idea how worried Brother He was..."
"Young Master, please move aside! I need to go in!" Jiang Xinyue forced half her head out. "He'er, quickly try my medicinal cuisine! It's very good for your health!"
Seeing the chaos at the entrance, Xing Ji stepped in first, and with a gap behind him, the others hurriedly ran in.
Xiang He was too weak to speak, so He Suian picked up a pillow to make her more comfortable.
She sat sideways on the edge of the bed and said, "Slow down, don't break the door."
Jiang Xinyue was the first to rush to the bedside. Not a drop of soup spilled from the bowl she was holding. "Sir, feed He'er. This is a medicinal porridge she taught me to cook. It's good for her health."
Seeing their worried expressions, Xiang He smiled, her face slightly gaunt. "Don't worry, it's only been three days, not..." She glanced at He Suian and changed the subject, "It's not like I slept for three years, don't worry."
“You slept for more than three days,” Xiang Huiying said, her eyes reddening as she grasped her hand. “No matter how much we called you, you wouldn’t make a sound. It scared us to death…”
"Don't worry, Seventh Sister, I'm awake now, aren't I?"
Everyone was naturally happy to see Xiang He wake up.
Shuiyue walked in from outside the door carrying a bowl of porridge, with a shiny black crow perched on her shoulder.
A pair of bright eyes blinked, then flapped its wings and flew to Xiang He's knees, its head bobbing up and down.
Xiang He held out his finger in front of it, and it gently pecked at it once, then did nothing more.
"Let's have some porridge first."
Xiang He twitched her fingers, turned her head to the side, opened her mouth, and took a bite. The warm liquid slid in, and the taste was just right. Xiang He held He Suian's hands in both hands, raised her head, and gulped down the drink.
"Slow down, don't eat too fast..."
How could one eat slowly when one's stomach is empty? Xiang He finished one bowl and then reached out to Shui Yue for another.
After drinking two bowls of porridge, I finally regained some strength.
"call--"
Xiang He patted her belly, looking satisfied. "I'm sorry to have worried you. I haven't been resting well lately, so I've been a bit sleepy."
"It's just drowsiness, nothing more..."
Hearing Xiang Huiying mutter, Xiang He reached out and took her hand, "Seventh Sister, don't worry, I feel really fine."
She felt uneasy, and Jiang Xinyue was also worried that she was overthinking things, so she put down the two bowls and pulled her out of the room, saying, "Didn't you hear that He'er wants to eat meat? Come with me to prepare some meat."
As soon as the two left, the relief on everyone's faces vanished.
Jinghua climbed onto the bed and stared at Xiang He's face. "Miss, what exactly happened?"
Shen Zhuoci and Qi Xin sat to the side, their brows furrowed and faces grim. "Did something happen at the Zhenjun Temple? It's really strange that you suddenly fell into a coma for three days."
Xiang He herself felt strange, but her body felt perfectly normal, and she felt much more relaxed. She didn't know whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.
"I need to think about this some more. Has anything else happened in these three days?"
She had been asleep for three days and needed to know the relevant information immediately to avoid missing anything important.
"It's very peaceful. The eldest daughter of the Junior Supervisor of Works has returned to her residence and hasn't left the gates since."
Xiang He turned her head slightly to look at He Suian, "Have you seen her face clearly?"
At this moment, Zhu Nan came out and said, "The Ye residence is heavily guarded and cannot be approached easily. I have never seen that Miss Ye leave the house."
"Then we can only wait..."
Everyone was talking about recent events, nothing particularly noteworthy.
The biggest thing was that Shen Zhuoci was startled when he saw the reflection in the mirror.
"By the way, Longguang Temple sent someone to the Prince's Mansion this morning."
"The Prince's Mansion? Who..." Xiang He's eyes widened, "The Princess!"
