Chapter 440 View
Chapter 440 View
The people in the dungeon were all startled by his bizarre death.
"My goodness, what was he doing? How did he end up like this?" Foxtail took a very cautious step back.
He had never seen an orc look like this after death.
Hu Kuo squatted down and reached out to touch his already cold limbs. It seemed that the flesh and blood had indeed disappeared, and Zhu Bao's body was just a skin hanging on the bones.
"Judging from his appearance, it seems like he committed suicide," Fox Tail said, squatting down to examine him closely.
Pig Bao's chest was a bloody mess, and he was still tightly gripping a sharp piece of wood in his right hand. In addition, some wood chips could be clearly seen from his wounds.
Hu Kuo looked up at Hu Luan and asked, "What do you think?"
Just then, a voice suddenly rang out, "I don't think so!"
The three of them looked in the direction of the voice. It was Niu Mang, the male orc who had brought them there. He scratched his head awkwardly when he saw their gazes. "I think if he didn't want to live anymore, he would have died long ago."
"So you mean?" Foxtail stood up and clapped his hands.
Niu Mang thought for a moment, "Ever since he arrived in the dungeon, he has been obediently staying there. Later, the high priest ordered that he would only be given one meal a day, and after that, he ate whatever he was given, wolfing it down, even finishing the bran." He didn't look like an orc who was thinking of committing suicide.
"If he wanted to die, he could have done so immediately after being captured by the City of Ten Thousand Beasts, but he has endured until now."
"And when I saw him before, although he was thin, he still had some flesh on his body. Unlike now, he's just an empty shell." It looks extremely eerie.
This appearance was even somewhat like the fantasy story the high priest had told them before, as if he were possessed by evil magic, Niu Mang thought to himself with a small complaint.
Hearing Niu Mang say this, Hu Kuo frowned and pondered for a while, then suddenly turned around, "Who was guarding this place yesterday?"
Two male orcs stepped forward. "It's us."
"Did either of you notice anything unusual about Pig Violence yesterday?"
The two divine beastmen frowned and pondered for a while before shaking their heads blankly. "No, there's nothing unusual about them."
"Oh, right, he was rambling on and on about some crazy things in the dungeon yesterday."
Hu Luan immediately pressed on, asking, "What did he say?"
"We're not too sure about that. His voice was very soft, and we were far away, so we couldn't hear him."
Foxtail frowned and said, "Is it possible that he simply couldn't hold on any longer?" That's why he came up with this idea.
Hu Kuo shook his head, carefully going through the timeline in his mind, and realized that Niu Mang was right; Zhu Bao's death was definitely not accidental.
He suddenly looked up, his gaze fixed on the two male orcs in front of him. "What... what did you two talk about yesterday?"
The two orcs exchanged a glance, then waved their hands frantically, "We...we didn't say anything!"
“Yes, Elder, we are absolutely loyal to Beast City!” another orc hurriedly explained to himself.
Hu Kuo's face darkened. "I didn't say you two were disloyal. I just wanted to find out why. So what exactly did you say yesterday?"
The two male orcs exchanged a glance and breathed a sigh of relief. One of them thought for a moment and said, "We didn't say much. We just talked about the high priest's expedition and wondered if we could get a chance to join the army next time."
“Yes, yes, that’s it!” His companion nodded like a chick pecking at rice.
After listening to the two male orcs, Hu Kuo's mind raced with countless thoughts. Then, his face darkened, and he banged his cane hard. "Damn it!"
"Elder, what's wrong?" Everyone else looked at Hu Kuo with blank expressions.
Hu Kuo didn't speak. He bent down again, took the bowl of water next to him, and washed the wounds on the corpse clean. Surprisingly, after washing, a small hole about the length of a finger was exposed in the wound on Zhu Bao's left chest. Looking into the hole, it was pitch black inside, as if it had been hollowed out.
The group was startled by his miserable appearance.
"What are you guys doing chatting about this outside the cell door?!" Hu Kuo stood up, looking at them with a disappointed expression. "Looks like you haven't studied the secrecy course enough!"
Hu Luan looked at Hu Kuo anxiously, "Elder, please stop being so mysterious, so what exactly happened?"
Hu Kuo shook his head with a stern face. "I don't know the specifics either, but what I'm sure of is that Zhu Bao must have used some kind of method to die such a tragic death."
“Especially since he was perfectly fine before, but now, after hearing the news that the High Priest was leading the army on a campaign, he immediately died in the dungeon in such a state. I’m worried that he might be a threat to the High Priest.” Hu Kuo sighed deeply.
Hu Luan was puzzled. "With his appearance, how could he possibly threaten the High Priest?" He felt that Hu Kuo was overthinking things.
Hu Kuo Mei Hao glared at Hu Luan and said, "Are you the priest or am I the priest?"
How could a battle chieftain like him know the methods used by orc priests?
"You are a priest, so you could tell?" Hu Luan asked with unusual bluntness.
Hu Kuo was speechless, taken aback by his question.
Even though Hu Kuo had been a priest for so many years, he still couldn't figure out what Zhu Bao had done to him.
However, Hu Luan's words also reminded Hu Kuo, "The City of Ten Thousand Beasts is on full alert these days. If anything unusual happens, be sure to report it immediately!"
The pigs died so tragically; they must have had some purpose in mind. If it wasn't targeting the High Priest, then it was targeting the City of Ten Thousand Beasts. In any case, none of them could escape.
"You two, go back to the training camp and retake the secrecy course to learn your lesson!" Hu Kuo pointed at the two male orcs he had been guarding yesterday. "If you continue to speak so recklessly and inappropriately in public, you'll be handed over to the Department of Justice!"
The two orcs listened to Hu Kuo's instructions with their heads down, and finally replied in a low voice, "Yes, Elder."
Tiger said to Fox Tail, "I'll leave those two to you."
The fox tail beside him quickly nodded, "Don't worry."
The more Hu Kuo thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. He couldn't see through Zhu Bao's methods, and this unexpected situation made him particularly uneasy.
He walked around in circles with his cane, muttering to himself, "I have to hurry and send a message to the high priest, so at least I can have a place to go in advance."
After saying that, he hurriedly left the dungeon.
"Hey, wait for me!" Hu Luan turned around, nodded to Hu Wei, and quickly chased after Hu Kuo to leave together.
