Chapter 471 The Entrance to the Secret Treasure
Chapter 471 The Entrance to the Secret Treasure
The valley was shrouded in mist, and the stream rushed among the rocks, making a crisp sound.
The two sides are steep rock walls, covered with moss and unknown vines.
“Following the stream northwards should lead us to the Bridge of Broken Souls,” Lin Han said, referring to the map.
Liu Wushuang examined the arrow wound; it had scabbed over, but it still ached slightly when she moved around a lot.
She didn't say anything, but tightened her belt and stepped into the stream first.
The stream water was icy cold, reaching above the knees.
The two went upstream, occasionally having to climb slippery rocks.
Lin Han walked ahead, occasionally turning back to help Liu Wushuang.
Several times, their hands touched between the rocks, then quickly separated, like startled birds.
At noon, the valley suddenly opened up, and a rickety suspension bridge appeared before us.
The bridge is made of wooden planks and iron chains. Due to its age, many of the planks have rotted and the iron chains are rusty.
Below the bridge lies a bottomless canyon, the roar of the water so deafening it can make one dizzy.
"This is the Bridge of Broken Souls?" Lin Han looked up at the ancient structure swaying in the wind. "It looks like it could collapse at any moment."
Liu Wushuang carefully observed the blurred inscription on the stone tablet at the bridgehead: "'Those who cross this bridge must have a pure mind, for every step is a scare'... It seems to be a test set up by the ancient Xuantian Sect."
Lin Han took a deep breath: "I'll go first, you follow my steps."
He carefully stepped onto the first plank, and the bridge immediately emitted an ominous creaking sound.
The iron chains swayed, causing the entire bridge to swing like a swing.
Lin Han steadied himself and moved forward step by step.
Liu Wushuang waited until he had walked ten steps before following him onto the bridge.
Her movements were much lighter than Lin Han's, like a nimble cat, barely causing the bridge to sway.
As they reached the middle of the bridge, a sudden and unexpected event occurred!
With a "crack," the wooden plank beneath Lin Han's feet suddenly broke! He reacted extremely quickly, grabbing the iron chain beside him, leaving him suspended in mid-air.
"Lin Han!" Liu Wushuang exclaimed, quickening her pace to try and rescue him.
Just as she approached, the rock wall that was holding the bridge in place suddenly loosened, and the entire bridge tilted to one side! The iron chains came loose from their anchor points, and the bridge deck was torn apart as if by a giant hand, with planks falling into the abyss.
Liu Wushuang lost her footing and slid towards the abyss!
Lin Han gripped the remaining iron chain with one hand and desperately reached out with the other, grabbing her wrist at the last second.
"Hold on tight!" Lin Han shouted through gritted teeth, his arm muscles tensed to the limit.
The two men dangled from the remaining iron chains, below which lay a bottomless abyss shrouded in mist. The chains groaned under the weight, seemingly on the verge of snapping.
"Let go!" Liu Wushuang looked up at him, "Otherwise we'll both fall!"
"Absolutely not!" Lin Han's forehead veins bulged, and his internal energy circulated wildly.
Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation on his forehead, and the flame pattern reappeared!
A strange feeling welled up in his heart—he could “see” every bump and hollow on the rock wall, and even “sense” the special energy flowing in some of the vines.
"Over there!" he pointed to the right rock face, "There are spirit vines!"
Liu Wushuang followed his gaze and saw several thick vines hanging down from the cracks in the rocks, with faint golden patterns on the vines that shimmered slightly in the sunlight.
"The Mysterious Heavenly Spirit Vine!" she exclaimed. "The legend is true!"
Lin Han used all his strength to swing the iron chain, throwing Liu Wushuang towards the spirit vine.
Liu Wushuang adjusted her posture in mid-air and firmly grasped the vine.
Surprisingly, the vines seemed to come alive, immediately wrapping around her wrists and waist, firmly fixing her to the rock wall.
"Your turn!" Liu Wushuang shouted, "Jump over here!"
The iron chains had begun to break, leaving Lin Han with no other choice.
He took a deep breath and leaped toward the spirit vine.
The moment he left, the iron chain snapped completely, plunging him into the abyss.
Lin Han's hand barely reached a spirit vine, but he couldn't hold on firmly, and his body slid downwards!
Liu Wushuang reacted quickly, grabbing his collar and the spirit vines wrapped around him as if they were alive, fixing the two of them to the rock wall.
"Phew..." Lin Han let out a long breath. "These vines... are they alive?"
Liu Wushuang gently stroked the golden patterns on the vine: "Ancient records state that the Xuan Tian Spirit Vine is a spiritual object guarding a secret treasure, and it only recognizes the bloodline of the sect leader."
She looked at the fading flame marks on Lin Han's forehead. "You're the one who awakened them."
The spirit vine began to move slowly, like a giant python carrying the two of them up the rock wall.
Lin Han was surprised to find that these vines did not grow randomly, but formed a hidden path leading to a cave entrance hidden by vegetation in the middle of the rock wall.
“This hole isn’t marked on the map,” Lin Han said.
Liu Wushuang's eyes gleamed with excitement: "Because this is a secret path that only the Spirit Vine can lead people to!"
After the spirit vine carried the two into the cave entrance, it shrank back and hung on the rock wall again, just like an ordinary vine.
The cave was dry and well-ventilated, a stark contrast to the damp cave we had encountered before.
Even more remarkably, the cave walls are inlaid with luminous crystals that provide soft lighting.
"Night-shining pearls?" Lin Han touched the crystals; they felt warm to the touch.
“Mysterious Celestial Crystal,” Liu Wushuang explained, “It absorbs sunlight and glows in the dark. It seems we’ve found the right place.”
The cave wound its way downwards, and the two proceeded cautiously.
As you go deeper, you see more and more crystals on the cave walls, and the light becomes brighter and brighter.
Finally, a circular cavern appeared at the end of the passage, with a clear spring in the center and several stone utensils scattered around it.
“Someone once lived here.” Lin Han picked up a stone bowl, the bottom of which was engraved with the mark of the Xuantian Sect—a sun surrounded by nine rays of light.
Liu Wushuang knelt by the spring, scooped up a handful of water, and tasted it: "Sweet and refreshing, it's top-quality mountain spring water."
She suddenly noticed carvings on the rock wall next to the spring. "Lin Han, come look at this!"
The engravings formed a simplified map, marking several key points: the cave where they were located, the Broken Soul Bridge, the Ghostly Sorrow Cliff, and a location on the cliff marked with a special symbol.
"This is the true entrance to the secret treasure!" Liu Wushuang exclaimed excitedly. "The dual sword map only pointed out the direction, but this map marks the exact location."
Lin Han studied the map carefully: "It looks like it's hidden in the middle of the Ghost's Sorrow Cliff, requiring a descent from the top to reach it."
"It's getting late, let's rest here for the night and set off tomorrow morning." Liu Wushuang began checking their belongings. "I'll go find some firewood to start a fire."
“I’ll go,” Lin Han said, pressing down on her shoulder. “Your arrow wound hasn’t fully healed yet.”
He retraced his steps and gathered some dried vines near the cave entrance.
Just as they were about to return to the cave, they suddenly heard a strange sound coming from below the valley—it sounded like metal clashing.
Lin Han crouched down alertly, looking down in the twilight.
At the bend in the valley, several men in black were searching for something. They wore strange bronze masks with hideous ghost faces carved on them.
