Chapter 81 Getting ready to leave
Chapter 81 Getting ready to leave
Chu Xinyao pushed open the wooden door, and a gust of cold wind mixed with rain rushed towards her. Under the eaves, raindrops fell like broken beads onto the road, splashing up water droplets.
Her gaze pierced through the rain and landed on the figure standing in the rain.
"Tiger Roar, what are you doing?"
Tiger Roar was shirtless, his muscles more defined by the rain, and he wore a piece of animal skin. Rainwater slid down his body and disappeared into the skin.
He turned his head, raindrops sliding down his angular face and dripping into his broad chest, forming small streams. He carried animal hides and wood, walking steadily towards Chu Xinyao. "Yaoyao, I'll set up the animal hide shed next to your room. The rain is too heavy; I'm worried about the danger. This way, you can easily find me if needed."
He had previously lived in a fur shed that was quite far from here, but for Chu Xinyao's safety, he decided to move the shed to be next to her.
Chu Xinyao looked at him, a warm feeling welling up inside her. "Thank you, Hu Xiao."
She looked out into the misty rain, her heart filled with worry. The downpour had plunged the entire tribe into an atmosphere of unease; trees swayed in the gale, thunder roared, and lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating the surroundings.
"Yao, what are you doing here? Come inside quickly." Shemo carried the wood over and saw Chu Xinyao standing at the door in the wind, and said anxiously.
His eyes were sharp as he glared at Hu Xiao beside him, seemingly blaming him for not letting Chu Xinyao into the house to avoid the rain in time.
This idiot has absolutely no sense of propriety.
Seeing Snake Ink glare at him, Tiger Roar didn't take it seriously and continued building his animal skin shed. With a strong pull, a simple animal skin tent was erected. Rain pelted him, but he seemed oblivious, completely absorbed in his work.
Inside the house, He Yu held a piece of animal skin and draped it over Chu Xinyao's shoulder. "Xin'er, come in a little closer, don't get wet."
"I'm fine, Snake Ink, Tiger Roar, are you both going to build houses here? Why don't you leave?"
Hu Xiao didn't speak, still doing what he was doing, but Chu Xinyao clearly saw his body stiffen, obviously he had heard her.
However, Chu Xinyao wasn't mainly talking to him; she frowned and looked at She Mo, who had put down the wood.
Snake Ink lowered his eyes slightly, his long eyelashes appearing even thicker under the wetness of the rain. He didn't speak, but Chu Xinyao's concern was not without reason.
Snake Ink is the chieftain of the Ink Snake tribe, and his importance is self-evident.
"Serpent Ink, you are the leader of your clan. Do you really think that staying here is the best choice for you?"
Shemo looked up, her eyes meeting Chu Xinyao's—deep, affectionate eyes. "Yao, don't worry, I've arranged everything. Once the rain subsides, A'da will take the tribe back by boat. As for me," Shemo's voice was firm, carrying an undeniable resolve, "wherever you are, that's my home."
His words were simple, but each one was like a nail, firmly driven into Chu Xinyao's heart.
"You..." Chu Xinyao was interrupted by a deafening clap of thunder before she could finish speaking.
With a loud "boom," the rain seemed to intensify. The dark clouds in the sky appeared to have been torn open, and torrential rain poured down, splashing onto the ground and gradually gathering into small streams.
"Please come in first!" Chu Xinyao invited helplessly.
Orcs, though physically strong, are susceptible to illness. And when they do fall ill, it's often more severe because the Orcish world is underdeveloped and medicine is scarce. She didn't want them to be harmed by this rain.
Snake Ink and Tiger Roar exchanged a glance, their eyes revealing a strange understanding.
Snake Ink nodded. "Wait a bit. We must build the house as soon as possible. If we wait until the rainy season ends and the cold season arrives, and we still don't have a place to live, that would be terrible." Although he could hibernate to withstand the cold season, his cubs and Yao could not.
Hu Xiao didn't speak, but simply nodded silently, and then continued his work, though he moved even faster than before.
"Snake Ink, why don't you set up a shed too? It'll be fine for temporary shelter. We'll go back together when the rain stops."
Snake Ink suddenly looked up, his dark red eyes filled with surprise, and his smile gradually widened. "Okay."
If Yao is willing to go back to the Ink Serpent Tribe with him, does that mean she has forgiven him?
Chu Xinyao turned and went inside, knowing that they were busy all for her sake, and felt a mix of emotions. She sighed softly and decided to make them some ginger tea. She didn't have enough ingredients, so she could only boil ginger and water to make the simplest ginger tea.
The two male orcs moved quickly, and two animal skin sheds were erected outside Chu Xinyao's house. The house was small, with only one room serving as a bedroom. Behind the bedroom was a simple kitchen, which, because it was not used often, contained almost no food.
He Yu helped Chu Xinyao start a fire, and by the time the two male beastmen came in, the ginger tea was ready.
The room was too small, and it felt cramped with the three male beasts and Chu Xinyao all together. Chu Xinyao sat on the bed, with He Yu on her left and She Mo on her right, while Hu Xiao sat on the only chair in the room.
"Are the sheds all set up?"
Shemo nodded. He had everything he needed; he had endured wind and rain on his journey to find Chu Xinyao, so a hide shed made of animal hides was essential. Since Chu Xinyao said there was no need to build a house, he went aboard the boat and retrieved the shed.
"Alright, let's discuss it! My cubs will be born in about ten days, so it might be inconvenient for me to walk around." Perhaps because there were many snake eggs, her belly had clearly grown larger in the past few days.
She hadn't felt anything before, but as soon as her belly grew a little bigger, she felt uncomfortable all over. Although Long Tingting said it was psychological, the near miscarriage she had almost suffered still left her with psychological trauma.
“Yes, that is indeed a problem. Under normal circumstances, it would take at least 10 days to get back to the Ink Serpent Tribe from here, but with the current weather, it’s hard to say.” Ink Serpent was very familiar with this route.
Crane Feather frowned. "Then we need to be prepared that we might not be able to return to the Ink Serpent Tribe."
"How about we go to my White Tiger Tribe?" The White Tiger Tribe is a large tribe on the Western Continent, covering a relatively large area. From here, it would normally take about 7 or 8 days in good weather.
Although Hu Xiao has lost his memory, he is the young patriarch of the White Tiger Clan, so Chu Xinyao would have received good care no matter what.
Chu Xinyao shook her head. "Once the cubs are born, plus the two months of incubation, it will be the cold season. We need to prepare for the cold season with animal hides, food, and fuel."
The three male beastmen fell silent. They all wanted Chu Xinyao to return to her tribe to give birth, as these matters were not a concern. However, Chu Xinyao was right; the timing wasn't ideal, and after the arduous journey, she was highly likely to give birth prematurely.
"Let's go to the Sanctuary!"
