Chapter 16 Cave
Chapter 16 Cave
To make the search easier, Lin Tian divided his lesser demons into several small teams. The number of them might not be the same, but their overall strength would not be too different, basically maintaining a standard that was just enough to deal with extraordinary life forms.
The team that discovered the cave was Team 7. Their team consisted of three wolf guards, one wolf scout, and one wolf assassin. After dealing with the spider monster, they did not choose to go deeper but instead began to call the other teams.
After the signal was given, a large number of wolf demons quickly gathered here, numbering over a hundred, making it the largest gathering since the Black Forest Village.
Is this the place?
Lin Tian, who was walking at the front, asked the wolf guard beside him.
“That’s right, this is the cave where we found the spider monster. The cave is very large; ten demons could walk through it at the same time without any problem. There is some light inside, so it’s not very dark, but it would be better to have a torch. The walls are extremely sturdy. We tried it; even when we struck them with a sharp blade at full force, only a few pieces of stone fell off.”
The white-browed wolf guard beside Lin Tian followed his steps while reporting the situation inside the cave to him.
After thinking for a moment, Lin Tian decided to select a group of high-combat-power vanguard troops to go in first, and the rest would follow behind. After all, although the cave was very large, it could not accommodate hundreds of demons fighting at the same time.
The one at the front had no reason to hesitate; he would definitely choose the high-cost demons. So he immediately selected the three newest troop types: Wolf Guard, Wolf Warrior, and Wolf Assassin. Lin Tian had already recruited all of them, which meant that he already had 30 demons. Then, he selected some Wolf Archers, plus a few random small demons, drawing about 50 people to lead the way.
Aside from a small number that followed to replenish the ranks, the other monsters were temporarily stationed outside the cave in case of any further changes.
Soon, Lin Tian and his group, fully prepared, entered the cave. Their current formation consisted of wolf warriors and wolf guards at the front, with Lin Tian walking in the middle, flanked by several little demons carrying torches, and wolf assassins and wolf archers at the rear.
After walking for a short while, they arrived at the corpse of the spider monster. Lin Tian came to the corpse and extracted a drop of essence blood from it, which surprised him greatly.
They continued onward and soon encountered new enemies.
"I think I'm starting to develop trypophobia."
Lin Tian muttered something under his breath, then raised his hand to signal his lesser demons to prepare for battle.
Opposite their group was a giant spider cocoon, inside which was the body of some unknown animal. Judging by its enormous size, it might also be a supernatural being.
Around the cocoon swarmed a large number of spiders, about twenty or thirty in number, each the size of a human head. Their green eyes, glowing in the dim cave, were extremely eerie.
The moment Lin Tian and his group spotted the spiders, the opposing group also noticed them. Their aggressive instincts were extremely strong, and they attacked Lin Tian and his group in a flash. These spiders seemed to be of low intelligence; after all, a normal intelligent animal would have been scared away by the overwhelming number of enemies.
The wolf demons wouldn't let them go just because they were stupid; as the spider charged, they attacked at the same time.
Snapped!
A muffled thud was heard, and the one who got off to a good start was a wolf warrior. Like the wolf guards, the wolf warriors also wielded a long-handled axe. The difference was that the wolf guards held the axe with one hand in reverse, while the wolf warriors held the axe with both hands in front. Compared to the wolf guards, the wolf warriors' axes were larger and more powerful.
The huge axe smashed into the tiny spider, giving the feeling of using a cannon to kill a mosquito. In just one exchange, the spider was instantly crushed to pieces by the giant axe.
Following this initial success, the other wolf demons began to be killed one after another. These spiders were not like the extraordinary spiders from before; their physical strength and the sharpness of their breath were far inferior. Their combat power mostly came from their superior combat strength and numbers compared to ordinary spiders.
These twenty or thirty spiders are definitely a lot compared to the previous team. The previous team could take down the extraordinary spiders, but they might not be able to take down these twenty or thirty spiders.
However, compared to Lin Tian's more than 50 lesser demons, they seemed somewhat insignificant, and the wolf demons cleared them all out in just a minute or two.
The group continued onward, but before they had gone far, they encountered another battle.
"An extraordinary spider?"
Lin Tian muttered to himself as he looked at the spider that was still incredibly resilient despite the fierce attacks he was under.
Several large axes struck him, widening his wounds and worsening his condition. Finally, after a mournful cry, he collapsed helplessly to the ground.
Lin Tian stepped forward to extract a drop of blood from the spider's corpse. Just as he was about to leave, he noticed something inside the spider's abdomen, which had been cut open by the giant axe.
The wolf demon noticed this at the same time. He reached into the spider's abdomen and, after fiddling with it for a while, a very tattered-looking notebook appeared in his hand.
The wolf demon wiped the acid off the notebook with his clothes, flipped through a few pages haphazardly, and then handed it to Lin Tian.
"Your Majesty, please look."
Lin Tian took it in his hands. He was a little puzzled. What material was this notebook made of? It looked like it was many years old. In such a dilapidated state, it had not been dissolved even after being swallowed by the spider.
With curiosity, he turned to the first page, which was still written in characters he didn't understand. However, after a moment of confusion, it slowly turned into Chinese, which he recognized.
In January of the year 1073, I received this notebook. It was a gift from Elsa, who told me to keep it to write down my daily life and such. I really don't understand, who keeps a diary? Anyway, I don't.
In February of the year 1073, the palace was too oppressive, and His Majesty forbade me to wander around. As a student of the god of knowledge, I felt restless if I didn't write something, but they provided me with nothing. It was only then that I discovered the peculiar thing about this notebook: it could automatically convert my thoughts into words. This rekindled my curiosity about the notebook.
On the same day, through my research, I discovered that this notebook could not record any information related to knowledge. No matter how much I thought about the construction formulas or breakdown information of spells, the notebook remained completely still, as if it were just an ordinary diary.
I didn't give up because of this; instead, I developed a strong curiosity about the notebook. Since it couldn't record academic information, I started using it to record some of my daily life, and I added the paragraphs above.
