Chapter 36 A Daring Escape
Chapter 36 A Daring Escape
......
"Susan, are you alright? Hold on tight, I'll pull you up right away."
Li Ailun gripped the curtain tightly. He looked down and saw that Susan's face and head were covered in blood. The curtain, which was tied around her waist, had slipped down to her ribs. It was only because it was stuck to her chest that it didn't slip off completely.
Above them, obese infected individuals were baring their teeth and claws, stuck in the window; below, a dense crowd of infected individuals waited anxiously.
The situation was extremely dangerous. Susan's feet were less than a meter above the heads of the infected people downstairs; any lower and they would be within reach.
Susan was still dazed. During her fall, due to inertia, her body swayed and her head hit the outer wall, drawing blood from her forehead. Only after hearing this did she come to her senses and tightly hugged the curtains that were tied to her chest.
She raised her head, enduring the sharp pain in her forehead, and replied:
"I...I'm fine..."
Li Ailun grabbed the curtains and climbed up. He could already hear the curtains tearing faintly; the curtains couldn't support the weight of two people.
Fortunately, Li Ailun was close to the waistline of the outer wall, and he touched the edge of the waistline in just two or three breaths.
He gripped the waistline of the exterior wall with both hands, did a pull-up, and half of his body was on the waistline. With another reach, he could touch the window frame.
Having just used the momentum to climb up the outer wall's waistline, I was preparing to climb into the window first.
Right at this crucial moment.
Hiss...
The curtains hanging from Susan finally gave way, making a tearing sound and tearing apart at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"what!"
Susan, hanging below, felt her body sway downwards and screamed in terror again.
She clung tightly to the curtains, as if grasping at a lifeline, afraid to let go.
Li Ailun, quick-witted and agile, reached out and, by sheer luck, managed to grab the completely torn curtain.
He knelt on the outer wall, hooking one hand around the window frame and the other pulling on the torn curtain, barely managing to catch Susan as she fell.
Susan felt countless hands touching her ankles below, and her legs began to kick and thrash wildly.
She turned pale with fright and instinctively cried for help:
"...Allen, help!"
When Li Ailun heard Susan's cries for help, he gritted his teeth and tried to pull her up, but her current position made it difficult for him to exert full force.
In particular, Susan's violent kicking greatly increased his burden. He strained so hard his face turned red, and he shouted out, word by word:
"Don't...move...anything..."
“Huh…Huh…”
At this moment, the obese infected creature made a move to pounce on Li Ailun, but it was stuck on the windowsill and couldn't move, unable to reach him.
Li Ailun could even smell the stench emanating from the obese infected person's mouth. He could only barely turn his body slightly to avoid its constantly flailing arms.
Nevertheless, Li Ailun never let go of the curtain. He struggled to twist his wrist, wrapping the curtain around it several times to prevent it from slipping out of his hand. The tightly stretched curtain made his palm turn purple.
Susan, who was hanging below, heard Li Ailun's shout and dared not move again, slightly bending her knees.
She looked up and saw that Li Ailun had not abandoned her even in such a situation. Tears blurred Susan's vision, and she was filled with indescribable gratitude.
However, seeing that the obese infected creature was about to bite Li Allen, Susan didn't want to continue to implicate him.
In despair, Susan made a difficult decision, and she cried out to Lee Allen, her voice choked with sobs:
"Let me go, Allen... or we'll both die!"
Upon hearing this, Li Ailun looked down and saw Susan gazing at him with teary eyes, her gaze filled with a sense of farewell.
He was anxious, afraid she might do something foolish, but he scolded her impatiently:
"Stop talking nonsense... Hold on tight and climb up quickly."
Although Li Ailun's tone was harsh, Susan was deeply moved, and tears instantly welled up in her eyes.
Without further hesitation, she braced herself against the exterior wall and, using both hands and feet, slowly climbed up the curtain...
Fortunately, Susan has improved her physical fitness and soon reached the edge of the outer wall. Just as she touched the outer wall with one hand, she heard Li Ailun's voice.
"Don't stop, you go up first."
Li Ailun was so angry he was red-faced and his neck was bulging, with veins popping out on his forehead, but he still insisted on saying:
Susan instantly understood what Li Ailun meant. She continued climbing upwards, reaching the waistline of the outer wall, and then continued climbing up Li Ailun's body, vaulting over the window sill and entering the office.
"Allen, come in quickly."
As soon as she entered the office, Susan went to greet Li Ailun.
"No rush, let's solve this problem first."
Li Ailun was now completely relieved of the pressure, and his left hand, which had been almost choked to the point of numbness, had regained feeling.
He had just stood up from the waistline of the outer wall when he pulled a dagger from his belt and plunged it into the head of the obese infected man.
The obese infected person's body instantly collapsed, powerless.
After taking down the culprit, Li Ailun used the window frame to climb into the office, before he could even catch his breath.
Susan suddenly pounced on him and hugged his waist. He could even feel the softness of Susan's chest pressed tightly against his chest.
"We survived..."
Susan was overwhelmed with emotion; tears streamed down her face as she looked at Li Ailun with gratitude in her eyes.
"It's too early to say that now."
Li Ailun smiled wearily, his heart filled with relief and emotion.
But he was still rational. He gently pushed Susan away and saw that the bleeding from her head wound had stopped, so it wasn't a big problem. He was slightly relieved.
Li Ailun used a dagger to cut the curtain tied around Susan's waist and said to her:
"Let's leave quickly, it's not safe here yet, let's get out of here first."
Susan felt a little embarrassed when he pushed her away, but when she saw the obvious marks on Li Ailun's left hand, and even the faint blood bruises, she felt extremely distressed.
But she understood that Li Ailun was right; they were not completely out of danger yet.
"Let's go first."
Li Ailun picked up the fire axe he had casually placed in the corner of the windowsill and walked out of the room first.
Susan quickly picked up her backpack and ran to catch up with Li Ailun.
...corridor.
The electronic door leading to another building remained closed, covered in bloody handprints and scratch marks, seemingly telling a story unknown to others.
Suddenly, through the small window in the door, blurred by bloodstains, a human face vaguely appeared, its eyes wide open...
