Chapter 2000 2001: Core Region

The sound of rain outside went on for an entire night. Sometimes it came down hard, sometimes it eased, pattering nonstop until morning before it finally stopped.

That morning the four of them were up early, went out to take a breath of fresh air. The air in this forest was truly excellent; even the Northern Spiritual Energy felt especially pure.

Ling Zhenfei covered up the cave entrance again, then the four of them set out immediately.

Even though it had rained all night yesterday, this morning there wasn't the slightest trace of a heavy rain. This was because they were in a primeval forest, with fallen leaves on the ground piled as high as a person, so after the rain they all sank down.

The four of them all used Northern Spiritual Energy, and hardly put any strength into their steps. Even if there was water in some places, it wouldn't affect their movements.

Because the three of them had gotten up quite early, there were many animals moving about in the forest, with insect calls and birdsong everywhere.

Dawn came later in the deep forest, because there were trees everywhere. They were all walking beneath the trees, so by the time the sun truly shone down on them it was already quite late.

By the time they could actually see the sun, the four of them had already entered the core area of Xianling Mountain.

This was the first time Ling Zhenfei had come here.

He had originally thought this place would be even more terrifying, since few people ever set foot here, but now it didn't seem to be the case. After Ling Zhenfei and the others walked in for a while, they actually discovered a small path.

On both sides towered extremely tall trees, dozens of meters high. Thick undergrowth choked the surroundings, yet a small path appeared here.

On this little path there clearly weren't any weeds growing, and some spots had even been deliberately paved with stones by people.

Sun Wei said, "No need to ask, this has to be the road up the mountain."

Zhang Zhenlin said, "No way, this is too easy. Didn't they say not just anyone can enter this core area?"

Ling Zhenfei said, "I don't know why, but I feel something's off."

Sun Wei said, "What's so strange about it? This core area must be cleaned often. Didn't they say there are people from the Three Great Immortal Palaces up there?"

Murong Liuqing said, "I also think it's strange. I didn't expect it to be this easy to walk here."

Sun Wei said, "You guys just haven't walked on a decent road before. Look at us now, aren't we doing just fine?"

Just then, a deer suddenly came running over from the distance.

This deer didn't seem afraid of people at all. It actually started grazing not far from the little path, as if it wasn't scared of them in the slightest.

Zhang Zhenlin said quietly, "What is going on here? How could a deer like this show up? It doesn't feel like we're in Xianling Mountain at all, more like the back mountain of my family estate."

Ling Zhenfei said, a bit oddly, "Everyone, just stay on your guard. We'll follow the path forward slowly."

Sun Wei said, "Brother Ling, are you sure this is the core area of Xianling Mountain?"

Ling Zhenfei said, "It should be. I haven't been here before, but I followed along the outer edge of the core area, and coming in this way should put us in the core area, that shouldn't be wrong."

Chatting as they walked along the little path, they now saw on both sides a vast sea of flowers. Some grew on the trees, some along the roadside, some even on the tree trunks, looking incredibly beautiful.

Everyone was shocked by this scene. It was very beautiful, yet it gave people a slightly unreal feeling.

They looked out over the sea of flowers stretching into the distance, as if this was no longer a forest but an ocean of blooms.

Just as Ling Zhenfei was feeling strange, he suddenly felt something at his feet blocking him.

Looking down, he saw that a flower vine had actually hooked his foot.

Ling Zhenfei immediately tried to lift his foot and step over it, but unexpectedly the flower vine suddenly moved, wrapping around his ankle in an instant.

Ling Zhenfei was startled. He hurriedly tried to yank free with force, but the moment he pulled, several more vines shot toward him, coiling around his body.

Ling Zhenfei understood at once that these flowers weren't simple. The blossoms were beautiful, but their goal was to confuse you and make you drop your guard.

These vines were definitely not harmless. Who knew what would happen if you were bound up by them.

Ling Zhenfei's reaction was extremely fast. The Tang sword in his hand flashed out, hacking toward the vines.

The vine was sliced through in an instant by Ling Zhenfei. He sprang into the air and severed the other vines that were trying to wind around his body.

But as Ling Zhenfei moved, even more vines came surging toward him.

These vines were like living things, with their own thoughts and will, all trying to coil around Ling Zhenfei.

Ling Zhenfei swung his blade, chopping at the vines, and glanced at the others. Their situation was about the same as his; they were all under attack from the flower vines.

There were even a lot of vines already wrapped around Zhang Zhenlin.

They were walking on a very narrow path, barely wide enough to place both feet, and on both sides of the path were these same flower vines.

Now the flower vines were all stirring to life, like a boundless horde of enemies surging in to surround them.

Ling Zhenfei was shocked, and could only keep swinging his Tang sword to hack at the vines around him.

But it was as if these vines could never be cut down for good. No matter how many Ling Zhenfei chopped apart, even more vines came rushing at him.

Looking around, he saw the vines all around them were now driving the entire sea of flowers to surge in the direction of their group.

"Brother Ling, think of something! These things are too damn clingy!"

Sun Wei shouted to Ling Zhenfei.

Zhang Zhenlin shouted to them, "Come help me, I'm not gonna last much longer!"

Ling Zhenfei glanced over at Zhang Zhenlin. Sure enough, his body was wrapped in a mass of vines, and more were still coiling around him.

Both of Zhang Zhenlin's legs were completely entangled.

Ling Zhenfei leapt over and slashed twice with Northern Spiritual Energy at Zhang Zhenlin's legs, cutting off all the vines wrapped around them.

Murong Liuqing was also reaching her limit. She sprang into the air and suddenly played her flute. Her Northern Spiritual Energy burst out like a giant dragon, sweeping toward the surroundings.

A surge of Northern Spiritual Energy instantly cut down all the vines nearby, even opening up a vacuum zone, but that vacuum zone didn't last long before it was swallowed again by the encroaching vines.

Zhang Zhenlin did the same. The long blade in his hand swept out, unleashing a wave of Northern Spiritual Energy. Energy crisscrossed, carving out a space more than ten meters wide with a single slash, but before he could react, it was filled up by the vines again.

Sun Wei said, "If this keeps up, these vines are going to drain all our Northern Spiritual Energy."

Zhang Zhenlin said, "Now I finally know why there are no animals here. Any that came would've been eaten by these vines."

Sun Wei said, "Didn't we just see a deer?"

Ling Zhenfei said, "That deer earlier probably didn't know what was going on. It's likely not in good shape now either."

Murong Liuqing said, "Enough talk, let's think of a way to get past this first."

Sun Wei said, "These flower vines go on without end—how are we supposed to get through?"

Ling Zhenfei thought for a moment and said, "If we can't get through on the ground, then we go up. Climb the trees and move along from above."
