Chapter 362: Close Enough to Hold Him
Chapter 362: Close Enough to Hold Him
Light and shadow flickering, cold wind blowing.
A car stops in front of him.
Tang Si slowly lifts his gaze.
The moment Song Yi opens the car door, Tang Si is completely stunned, not expecting to meet her here.
Before he has time to speak, the woman is already standing in front of him: "What are you doing here?"
"Here on a mission?" Song Yi asks very calmly.
Her eyes, having cried, are somewhat red.
Tang Si’s gaze falls on her face, he furrows his brows tightly, and slowly moves down to see her bandaged hand.
His voice is deep and hoarse: "What happened to your hand?"
He reaches out to touch her hand, but Song Yi dodges.
Tang Si’s hand halts in mid-air, looking at her face somewhat bewildered and at a loss.
Song Yi’s fox-like eyes fix steadily on him, without saying a word, just staring.
Tang Si’s hand in the air slightly moves, and then he retracts it.
A mix of emotions intertwines inside him.
His once nimble mind now seems unable to turn, blank and sluggish.
Why did she suddenly appear here?
Is she angry?
Angry that he lied to her?
Or is it because she’s injured and feels wronged because he wasn’t there for her?
These thoughts roll through his mind over and over, tugging at his heart, causing a sharp, throbbing pain.
At this moment, the expression on the woman’s face is cold, absent her radiant smile.
No longer smiling brightly at him.
He’s beating the drum in his heart.
He’s scared.
Tang Si’s deep eyes fix on her, finally grasping for a topic, pale in his attempts: "How did you get hurt?"
Song Yi bites her lower lip, some words stuck in her throat, unable to speak.
Really wants to harshly scold him.
But she simply can’t bring herself to do it.
This is clearly a big liar standing before her.
Song Yi bites down on her lower lip, her eyes lower, tears start disgracefully swirling in her eyes.
Seeing her like this.
"I’m sorry," he says.
"Sorry for what?"
Tang Si: "For whatever you think I did wrong, I’m sorry for that."
Song Yi turns away, her back facing him.
Fu Jingsheng, at this moment, is tactful enough to stay in the car, treating himself like a transparent person.
Song Yizai’s mind is brewing words, unsure how to speak to him.
"Then tell me, what are you doing now? Why are you standing here, why aren’t you replying to messages?"
Tang Si’s tone is calm: "Over here, just relaxing."
Song Yi turns back to stare at his face: "How did your face get injured?"
"Got a little scrape, nothing serious," Tang Si answers to every question.
"No other injuries?"
"No." Tang Si slightly shifts his weight backwards, leaning against the railing.
As he says these two words, his tone is very weak.
If you don’t listen carefully, you won’t notice it at all.
Tang Si also wants to say something more, but he seems to lack the strength.
Tonight, Song Yi can see many things in his eyes.
All are negative emotions, all are bad feelings.
Even when she’s standing in front of him, his eyes hold a hint of a smile, but even that smile is tinged with sadness.
Right now, Song Yi only feels despair inside, profound despair.
And a sensation of ineffable powerlessness.
This man is clearly in front of her, clearly reachable with a stretch of her hand.
But...
She feels as though she’s a hundred thousand miles away from him, unable to reach or touch him.
Song Yi doesn’t say anything more, nor does she ask any further questions.
Tang Si takes a deep breath, tightly closing his eyes.
A second or two later, he turns his gaze towards the river.
"Dating me must be quite exhausting, huh?"
His tone is flat, the more he speaks, the more apparent his weakness becomes.
He says, "I remember I told you before."
"To be with me, I don’t have much time to spend with you, can’t have the normal relationship like ordinary couples have."
"What I can do is give you the most companionship within my limited time."
His voice lowers more and more: "But gradually I’ve found that I can’t do it at all."
"I also feel helpless, sometimes it seems all I bring you is harm."
"Seeing you injured, if you had another boyfriend, he would definitely be there with you in the hospital."
"But I wasn’t, I wasn’t by your side."
As he speaks, a low, mocking laughter is mixed into his voice: "I thought I could take good care of you, but in the end, I couldn’t give you anything."
Hearing these words, Song Yi’s heart is nearly stopping.
The river wind whips his coat into a resounding flutter.
He turns around, facing the wind, tangles his hair, tangles hers.
"If you no longer wish for it," Tang Si whispers, "you can give up."
"I can let you go, I told you already."
Tang Si quietly gazes at her: "But, if you need me, all you have to do is turn around, I’m always here."
Song Yi laughs out of anger: "You think I’ve come to tell you this?"
The wind brings clarity to her mind: "You think I’m someone who gives up easily, you think I find boyfriends just to care for me, to sacrifice for me?"
Song Yi’s voice grows from soft to loud: "You think, you think you have the right to think that?"
She always has her little temper.
"Can’t you stop being so self-righteous every time, I’m anxious at home, I understand the nature of your work."
"Tang Si, you know what? I called you and your colleague answered, saying you were in interrogation. What, even if you were dying on the operating table, you wouldn’t want me to go see you, right?"
"If I wasn’t worried," Song Yi raises her hand, pointing at the bandage above: "Would I rush and get burned?"
"Haha, would I get burned?"
Tang Si remains silent.
Song Yi realizes her emotions are a bit intense, sniffs, turns aside, not daring to look at his expression: "I’m not asking you to reveal your work secrets, nor do I ask to know your whereabouts."
"I only ask you to live well, ask you not to lie to me about being hurt, okay?"
"Were you just proposing to break up with me?" Song Yi looks at Tang Si: "If I’m someone you constantly want to break up with, and you can let me go anytime, does that mean I’m insignificant to you, dispensable, even a burden?"
"Every day I have to ask during your missions, ask when you’ll be back, once back ask you to accompany me, ask you to comfort me, wasting your time, giving you mental stress, right?"
Song Yi takes a deep breath, firmly staring at him: "Don’t you dare say you’re letting go, that you’re stressed, while blaming it all on me."
