Chapter 100 Wounds
Chapter 100 Wounds
Liu Shan's eyes flashed with murderous intent.
He strode forward and examined Li Jichang's body.
He couldn't make out the ligature marks on the corpse's neck, but the fracture of the sternum was clearly visible, obviously caused by external force.
Based on his years of fighting experience, Liu Shan immediately simulated in his mind the methods, force, and angles by which the murderer committed the violence.
First, he punched Li Jichang so hard that he broke Li Jichang's sternum. Then, as Li Jichang collapsed and coughed up blood, Li Jichang quickly put a rope around his neck and strangled him to death. He then faked it as a suicide by hanging.
However, there was one thing he couldn't understand: the murderer clearly had the ability to kill Li Jichang, so why would he go to the trouble of faking his own suicide?
Unless, the murderer intended to cover up the truth and confuse the public.
But what was the killer's purpose in doing this?
Assuming Li Jichang's death, who was the biggest beneficiary?
Liu Shan touched his nose. For the time being, he realized that he was the biggest beneficiary of Li Jichang's death...
Therefore, this assumption is invalid.
Liu Shan then considered other possibilities.
However, they were completely baffled.
Since he couldn't figure it out, he simply stopped thinking about it and decided to start by questioning the two coroners from the daytime.
He said to Tian Fugui, "Immediately summon all the officials and have them come directly to the county magistrate's morgue."
Tian Fugui's heart tightened, and he quickly nodded in agreement.
Soon, only Liu Shan was left in the morgue... oh no, only Liu Shan and Liu Shan were left, after all, the dead are still people.
At first, he didn't think much of it; all he was thinking about was how to pry the truth out of the coroner.
However, as time went by, Liu Shan gradually felt a chill creeping over him. Why was the morgue getting colder and colder?
He reached out and touched Li Jichang's body; it was unusually cold, which was normal.
However, whether it was an illusion or not, he found that his hands also seemed to have become unusually cold.
Of course, that was nothing compared to what terrified him: Li Jichang was holding his hand tightly.
WTF? !
Liu Shan struggled in terror, but could not break free from the cold hand.
His heart suddenly raced, and he broke out in a cold sweat.
Liu Shan took a deep breath and struggled again...
"Clap!"
Li Jichang's body fell to the ground.
Liu Shan, still shaken, clasped his hands together and muttered, "Don't blame me, don't blame me."
Before long, he regained his composure and, out of pity, dragged Li Jichang's body back to the morgue.
Suddenly, his eyes sharpened as he noticed the wound on Li Jichang's right index finger.
He looked closer and found that although the wound was shallow, it looked as if it had been repeatedly cut by a sharp weapon, showing a deliberately created mark.
Liu Shan stared at the wound, lost in thought.
A moment later, hurried footsteps came from outside the morgue. The door was pushed open, and a group of constables rushed in, panting, and lined up on both sides.
At the very end of the procession, Tian Fugui led four constables, escorting the coroner who would be conducting the autopsy that day, into the morgue.
"Kneel!" Tian Fugui shouted coldly, kicking the knees of the two coroners.
The two coroners immediately knelt down, their faces ashen.
Liu Shan's gaze was icy as he asked in a cold voice, "Was there anything concealed during today's autopsy?"
The two coroners, trembling with fear, exchanged a glance and replied simultaneously, "Your Honor, we have not concealed anything."
Liu Shan sneered, "Fine! I love your stubbornness of not shedding tears until you see the coffin."
The two coroners immediately turned pale and were drenched in sweat.
Liu Shan pressed on, saying sternly, "I'll give you one more chance. If you try to hide it again, don't blame me for being impolite!"
At this moment, Tian Fugui stepped forward and added in a low voice, "You two may not know this, but before following the magistrate, I was also a coroner, and I know the ins and outs of this. If the evidence wasn't conclusive, why would the magistrate ask questions so easily? If you don't confess honestly, you'll be subjected to severe torture!"
Upon hearing this, the two coroners' expressions changed drastically. The coroner from the neighboring county, unable to withstand the pressure, trembled as he spoke, "Sir, I was forced into this. He told me that if I did not obey, my whole family's lives would be in danger."
The coroner from Jinhua County hissed, "Are you crazy? Shut up!"
The breakthrough has been found; all that remains is to expand the gains.
“Continue, who forced you?” Liu Shan’s eyes were sharp as he said coldly, “As long as you tell me everything you know, I will guarantee the safety of your family.”
After a moment's hesitation, the coroner from Lin County finally gritted his teeth and said, "It's the Liu family. They forced me to conceal the truth."
The coroner from Jinhua County angrily retorted, "Bullshit! It was clearly you who took the money, deliberately concealed the autopsy results, and tried to frame the Liu family!"
The coroner from the neighboring county panicked and said in a trembling voice, "Sir, everything I said is true, I have not lied!"
The coroner from Jinhua County sneered and interrupted, "Lord Liu, he is clearly trying to escape punishment; his words are not credible!"
Liu Shan sighed. This was troublesome. Who should he believe?
Should they both be punished?
Suddenly, the coroner from the neighboring county had a flash of inspiration. "Sir, his surname is Liu, he is a member of the Liu family, and his appointment as a coroner was arranged by the Liu family."
Liu Shanxin was in high spirits. If it could be confirmed that the Liu family had interfered in the autopsy, it would be the beginning of bringing down the Liu family.
Soon, the yamen runners verified the identity of the coroner from Jinhua County. As the coroner from the neighboring county had said, the coroner from Jinhua County was indeed a distant relative of the Liu family.
Liu Shan glanced at them coldly, having already made up his mind, and said in a deep voice, "Take the coroner from Lin County back to the prison and keep him under strict guard!"
The coroner from Lin County struggled and cried out, "Your Honor, everything I said is true. Didn't you promise to let me go?"
Liu Shan snorted coldly, his face expressionless, and said, "I only said 'I guarantee the safety of your family,' when did I say I would let you go? You deceived me during the autopsy and deserve to be punished. As for the Liu family, since they dared to interfere in official business, I will investigate them thoroughly and show no leniency!"
After speaking, Liu Shan turned to the constables and ordered, "Immediately seal off the Liu family residence. No one is allowed to enter or leave. Make sure to bring the head of the Liu family to the main hall!"
However, although the constables obeyed the order, none of them dared to move.
Seeing this, Liu Shan glared angrily and shouted, "You fear the Liu family, but are you not afraid of the law? If you cannot uphold justice today, how will you face the people in the future? Go and carry out this order immediately, and those who disobey will be punished!"
The constables looked at each other, and finally, steeling themselves, they walked out.
Liu Shan said to Tian Fugui, "These yamen runners are unreliable. Go tell Han Chengjia to bring the person in charge of the Liu family to the main hall."
Tian Fugui accepted the order and left. Liu Shan secretly pondered that interfering in official business could only serve as a starting point for investigating the Liu family, and was not enough to completely bring down the Liu family. To wipe out the Liu family in one fell swoop, more conclusive evidence was needed.
At this moment, the coroner surnamed Liu, who was kneeling on the ground, suddenly looked up and asked through gritted teeth, "Sir, why are you so determined to target the Liu family?"
Liu Shan sneered and retorted, "Since you are a member of the Liu family, don't you recognize me?"
The coroner surnamed Liu was taken aback, then forced a smile and said, "You jest, sir. How could I not recognize you? You are Liu Shan, the magistrate of Jinhua County."
