Chapter 617 - 616: Guo Yin Eliminated
Chapter 617 - 616: Guo Yin Eliminated
Thankfully it wasn’t Shu Ran who was eliminated this round, otherwise the staff pretending to be 049 might’ve gotten scared, leading to even more brutal methods of massacre.
This 049 actor was extremely professional, not at all disturbed by Shu Ran’s screams. After glancing around, the eerie bird beak pointed in a certain direction in the middle.
It started to sprint rapidly!
And it was heading toward Guo Yin!
Chen Yi, who felt like his heart was leaping out of his throat, was momentarily stunned. He paused from his escape attempt and turned to look in the direction it was running.
Guo Yin’s expression turned from joy to terror as he staggered back a couple of steps and frantically asked those around him, "What’s going on?! Why is it running at me?!"
No one answered him, and he didn’t get a response, seeing 049 approaching, he turned and bolted, continuing to shout loudly as he ran:
"What on earth is going on?! I put the paper on Brother Chen Yi! Don’t catch me! Don’t catch me!"
Li Yang, who was watching the spectacle from a distant corner, widened his eyes just like everyone else, bewildered in the wind for a moment.
He didn’t expect the reversal to happen so quickly, and that it would affect his teammate; how could this be allowed?!
He stood up and roared at Guo Yin, the veins on his neck popping, "Run! Run faster! Guo Yin, don’t look back at it, run faster! Go in circles!"
Guo Yin tried to stop and turn to run in another direction, but unexpectedly, two or three more 049s appeared from nearby corners.
Looking identical and large, each wearing a black robe with an eerie bird beak and bizarre goggles, their speed was the same, and before long, Guo Yin’s movement space was restricted to a narrow area.
Gasping for breath, Guo Yin dared not stop, continually circling between the 049s, but he knew this method was pointless as he’d surely be caught in the end.
He spun his brain into overdrive, changing direction in his panic, not avoiding 049’s pursuit but rather trying his utmost to get close to Mu Qiu and Zhao Yu.
Surrounding people were still in shock from this surprising twist and the intimidation of multiple 049s, Mu Qiu and Zhao Yu leaned against one another, silent and motionless, pretending to be invisible, only their eyes fixating on the pursued and the pursuers.
The scene was captivating.
Until Guo Yin rushed toward them, frightening the two into paling with shock.
"Oh my god! Run! Guo Yin, don’t come here!"
Guo Yin ignored them, shouting their names as he charged forward.
"Sister Mu Qiu! Sister Zhao Yu! We’re allies! Can you bear to watch me get dragged away?!"
"... Now you realize we’re allies! Don’t come over!!!"
The two quickly bolted backward.
Guo Yin closed the gap between them, and as he drew closer than to anyone else, he seemed to lose his stamina, slowing down a bit.
Suddenly, as he was surrounded by the pursuing 049s, one of them clamped a hand over his mouth from behind, forcing him to bend backward.
He still struggled, like a test subject in a horrific experiment, nearly knocking the bird beak off the 049 covering his mouth.
But it was futile as the 049 at the front took out a black robe and covered Guo Yin, while the one behind, covering his mouth, restrained him completely, hauling him backward and dragging him out of the scene.
An icy electronic voice sounded.
"Guo Yin is out!"
"Guo Yin is out!"
"Guo Yin is out!"
The entire place was stunned.
Mu Qiu, Zhao Yu, and Chen Yi and Shu Ran, who were dazed elsewhere, exchanged a glance, all showing signs of lingering fear.
As the electronic voice’s echo faded, the street returned to just the scorching sunlight, and people began tentatively emerging, gathering together in small groups.
Shu Ran’s makeup seemed to be on the verge of breakdown: "What is happening here?! This is way scarier than when Brother Huai was eliminated before!"
Chen Yi glanced at the paper that had been trampled underfoot numerous times, still incredulous: "He really did stick it on me. How did he end up out?"
"This is so realistic! That 049 is acting too well!" Mu Qiu exclaimed, "When they were dragging Guo Yin, it really felt like some psycho was kidnapping and harming innocent people!"
It was so convincing that when Guo Yin stopped struggling once wrapped in the black robe, the scene appeared particularly frightening.
Zhao Yu patted her chest, clearly caught off-guard as well: "Isn’t the show’s production too refined? Does elimination have to be this terrifying? Can’t they just let us leave peacefully?"
Cheng Zhirang and Shen Zhousong emerged from the museum entrance again, alongside three others who had been watching from a distance, all walking over.
Guan Yu hadn’t reached yet but was already shouting loudly: "What’s going on?! The turn of events was so quick!"
Li Yang’s voice was even louder: "How did Guo Yin just... disappear?! Wasn’t he the traitor who should be killing others?!"
A group of bewildered comrades gathered, continuously questioning, and their inquiries carried a hint of fear.
However, this time, they didn’t dare to stand too close to each other. Guo Yin had tried to kill Chen Yi but was ultimately counter-killed, indicating that someone else must have made a move, or the rules weren’t as initially assumed.
Whatever the case, standing too close wasn’t safe.
Mu Qiu quickly ran through the entire event in her mind, stepping in front of Zhao Yu as she watched the others warily.
The most bewildered, Chen Yi, intolerant of the silence, once more voiced the earlier question.
"What’s going on here? Wasn’t he the traitor? And he did put the paper on me!"
"He put it on you, but he’s the one who got out. Do you have some kind of rebound mechanism on you?" Chu Qiu speculated.
Chen Yi shook his head in confusion: "No, I don’t."
"Then his attempt to massacre you was ineffective, but someone else’s attack on him was valid," Cheng Zhirang quickly analyzed, "He might not have been a traitor."
Not a traitor? Has everything we understood been overturned again?
Everyone turned their gaze to Mu Qiu.
Guan Yu: "Didn’t you say you found a clue to his identity and determined he was the traitor?"
Shu Ran: "Yeah, you said Guo Yin was a traitor. Now he’s counter-killed; what’s the reason for this?"
All at once, everyone’s focus converged on Mu Qiu, filled with suspicion, vigilance, and confusion.
Mu Qiu, frowning and still pondering, met their gazes and said:
"I didn’t falsify his identity clue. On the second day after the apocalypse descended, he sent messages to those who had bullied him before, saying they’d get their comeuppance.
Isn’t this a sign of turning evil? Doesn’t it fit a traitor’s profile? Plus, don’t rush; let’s analyze this like solving a math problem.
Regarding his failure to murder Brother Chen Yi and getting killed instead, I think there are three possibilities: one, just as Chu Qiu suggested, that Brother Chen Yi has some miraculous rebound mechanism.
Two, he indeed is the traitor, but before he could execute Brother Chen Yi, he was slaughtered by someone else, thus failing to kill anyone.
And at that time, 049 hadn’t appeared in time, and when it did, Guo Yin had already turned against us and stuck the paper on Brother Chen Yi, so we just assumed 049 caught the wrong person, though actually, it didn’t."
