"Tang Lie wins!"Shen Wushuang announced the result with a sigh, patting Tang Lie on the shoulder as if consoling him.
Meanwhile, Xu Xingxing was dancing around with a bratty grin plastered on his face, bragging about his heroic display to everyone nearby.
The winner and loser seemed to have completely swapped places.
Tang Lie won, but also... not really...
Shen Wushuang spoke up. "I now announce the top three: Chen Shu, Xu Xiaoyu, and Tang Lie!"
After nearly a full day, the competition was finally approaching its end.
"You three, draw lots!"

He was the first to open his. His mouth split into a grin. "Mine's blank! I got the blank one!"
Chen Shu pursed his lips. "What are you yelling about? THIS is what a bye actually looks like!"
He unfurled his own paper ball, revealing two bold characters: Bye!
Tang Lie's mouth twitched. So a blank slip meant you had to fight...
"Xu Xiaoyu versus Tang Lie!"
Two more powerhouse A-rank contract spirits facing off.
The two were old rivals. Both had been in Beast Taming Class 1 together, perpetually dominating the first and second place spots.
"Xiaoyu, to defeat Chen Shu, I have no choice but to eliminate you first! Forgive me!"
Tang Lie wore an expression of deep emotion, though the effect was somewhat undercut by how ridiculous he looked.
Xu Xiaoyu remained unmoved and summoned her Fire Bird.
As if remembering something, Tang Lie's body shuddered. He immediately called out, "Quick! Push me further back!"
Wang Yun and Hong Ming immediately wheeled Tang Lie to the far end of the competition stage.
He breathed a small sigh of relief.
If things caught fire again mid-fight, that would be a nightmare.
Just to be safe, Tang Lie added, "You two get some water ready and stand by!"
Chen Shu watched from the sidelines. "Xiaoyu, go all out. Best case, you both get wrecked. Leave the rest to me!"
Xu Xiaoyu was speechless. Your intentions couldn't be more obvious. Why not just ask me to hand you the championship directly?

Tang Lie, on the other hand, had faced Xu Xingxing. While Wind Runner's spirit had suffered trauma that would never fully heal...
At least its body was probably... maybe... fine.
"Brief rest before the finals!"
Shen Wushuang announced. To ensure relative fairness, he decided to give Tang Lie some recovery time, since he had just finished battling Xu Xiaoyu's Fire Bird.
This was where the school medics came in handy. They could treat Wind Runner and Tang Lie right there on the spot.
Man and beast lay on the ground together, awaiting treatment. Two doctors approached with various topical medicines.
The key detail? Both had injuries in roughly the same area...
A crowd gathered to spectate. Tang Lie swore this was absolutely the most excruciating treatment he had ever endured.

The special potion's healing power was indeed formidable. Tang Lie could now stand up, albeit shakily, and Wind Runner also appeared to have recovered nicely.

Tang Lie straightened his body, eyes filled with a long-absent confidence.
He had endured humiliation. Not to prove how great he was, but to show others that the shame he had suffered would be repaid!

Tang Lie's reaction was pure instinct. He jerked and immediately looked down.

At that exact moment, the giant slime came crashing down, attempting a preemptive strike to pin Wind Runner under its butt.
"You really are one sneaky bastard!"
Everyone's mouths twitched. They hadn't expected Chen Shu to be this underhanded. Just now, everyone in the arena had looked at Tang Lie. Nobody had been watching the stage.
Though his ambush was clever, Wind Runner was simply too fast. It barely managed to dodge the attack.
"Damn it! I really underestimated you!"
Cold sweat beaded on Tang Lie's forehead. Thank god Wind Runner's reflexes were sharp.
If it had actually gotten sat on, it would've become the second Earth Sub-dragon.
"Goo-gii! Goo-gii!"
The slime continued its adorable calls, looking completely harmless.
Only those who had actually been pinned beneath it knew what true despair felt like.
Watching the slime bounce around on the ground below, Tang Lie felt a moment of relief, immediately followed by rage surging upward.
The grudge he had been nursing was finally about to be settled!
"You think only your trio knows how to humiliate people?"
A smile appeared at the corner of Tang Lie's mouth. He looked every bit the villain.
Wind Runner flew above the slime's head, shaking its butt provocatively.
Today, I'm not just going to shit on your head. I'm going to borrow your toilet paper afterward!
Chen Shu paused, an odd look flickering in his eyes. Then his expression shifted to one of righteous fury.
"Tang Lie, you're shameless!" Chen Shu declared with imposing righteousness. "To resort to such despicable tactics! You are a disgrace to Nanjiang Second High!"
"..."
In an instant, everyone in the arena fell silent. It was safe to say they had never been this speechless in their entire lives.
