Chapter 399 The Debate Over Prescriptions
Chapter 399 The Debate Over Prescriptions
"What do you want? That prescription was originally mine! I can have half of what belongs to your mother too."
In his haste, Yan Feng blurted out his words without thinking, only realizing his mistake after he finished speaking, and his face instantly stiffened.
Yan Lan immediately sneered, her eyes full of contempt: "Who do you think you are, daring to take a piece of my mother's things? You've probably forgotten that you and my mother were never married. Back then, that so-called engagement was denied by you first, and then you turned around and abandoned us, mother and daughter!"
Her words were like a slap in the face to Yan Feng, leaving him speechless for a moment. He opened his mouth but couldn't utter a word for a long time.
After a long pause, he stammered his explanation, his tone still carrying a hint of bravado: "Your mother gave it to me voluntarily! She personally handed me the prescription back then. If I told even half a lie, I'd be hit by a car and killed as soon as I stepped outside!"
"Did your mother give it to you herself?"
Yan Lan was suddenly stunned, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.
Yan Feng didn't seem to be lying. Could it be that he really didn't steal that prescription?
"Stop your nonsense! Are you leaving or not? If you don't leave, I'm calling for help right now!"
Seeing that her expression softened, Yan Feng immediately seized the opportunity to change the subject, his tone hardening again, and he actually reached for the phone on his desk.
But Yan Lan didn't back down, her tone carrying an undeniable intimidation: "Yan Feng, your career has been going very well these past few years, but your health isn't so good, is it? Have you been experiencing a dull ache in your liver area lately, and sometimes it feels bloated and uncomfortable at night? Have you also noticed some unexplained little red spots appearing on your body?"
Those few words pierced Yan Feng's heart like needles. His hand holding the phone froze abruptly, his face turned deathly pale, and even his voice changed: "How did you know?"
Looking at his panicked appearance, Yan Lan slowly spoke, each word hitting his ears: "You probably don't know yet, do you? I am the Ghost Doctor."
You've witnessed my medical skills before; you know best whether I've been lying to you.
"Are you the Ghost Doctor?"
Yan Feng suddenly looked up, his eyes wide open, staring at Yan Lan in disbelief.
Recently, the name "Ghost Doctor" has become known to almost everyone in Singapore. The old master of the Qin family had been in a coma for many years and had become a vegetable. Many famous doctors were helpless, but in the end, it was the Ghost Doctor who took action and pulled him back from the brink of death. This matter has been widely discussed in official circles, and he had naturally heard about it.
But he never imagined that the famous ghost doctor was actually the daughter he had mocked for "not being able to make a living"!
Yan Feng's mind was buzzing; he hadn't yet recovered from the shock and was struggling with whether to agree to give up the prescription when suddenly a series of hurried footsteps came from outside the office, getting closer and closer. Yan Lan reacted quickly, raising her hand to put her mask back on, covering most of her face.
The next second, the door was pushed open, and Yan Xue walked in in high heels. Her gaze swept across the office, and she immediately spotted the "cleaner" standing to the side.
Her brows furrowed immediately, filled with suspicion. Wasn't that the cleaning lady she had just bumped into in the hallway? How come she's in her father's office now?
"Get out." Yan Xue didn't give her a kind look at all, her tone extremely impatient. As she spoke, she walked straight to the sofa and sat down, not even giving Yan Lan a second glance.
Yan Lan didn't say much, turned around and walked towards the door, her footsteps so light they made no sound. No one noticed that as she passed the corner of the desk, a pinhole camera the size of a button had been silently stuck into the gap between the cabinet and the wall, steadily aimed at the two people in front of the desk.
The moment the door closed, Yan Xue looked at Yan Feng, her voice full of resentment: "Dad, do you know that Yan Lan is back!"
Yan Feng was still reeling from the shock of hearing that "Yan Lan is a ghost doctor." Upon hearing this, he merely gave a perfunctory "oh," his mind preoccupied with the dull pain in his liver and the prescription.
"Is this all you're going to do?"
Yan Xue became even angrier upon seeing this, her face turning extremely pale. She gripped the sofa armrests tightly, her knuckles turning white. "Liu Jinnian is already asking for a divorce because of her!"
She had just received a message from Liu Jinnian that morning. His tone was firm, leaving no room for negotiation. At that moment, she felt like the sky was falling.
After thinking it over, she attributed all the bad things to Yan Lan.
If Yan Lan hadn't come back, how could her marriage have come to this?
"Divorce? He wouldn't dare!" Yan Feng finally snapped out of his reverie, slammed his fist on the table, and roared in the office, "You're the governor's daughter! Even if Liu Jinnian had ten times the courage, he wouldn't dare mention divorce to you!"
The voice was quite loud, and Yan Lan, who had just turned the corner of the corridor, heard it clearly. She stopped abruptly, her eyes filled with shock—Yan Xue is the governor's daughter? How could that be?
Yan Lan frowned, her mind in turmoil. She knew Yan Xue's position in the family all too well. Even if her mother and Yan Feng hadn't married back then, and she herself wasn't considered a legitimate heir of the Yan family, Yan Xue was the daughter of Yan Feng's lawfully wedded wife. How could she suddenly become the governor's daughter? What were these two up to, and what big secret were they hiding?
Just as she was about to move closer to hear a few more crucial details, she suddenly heard hurried footsteps behind her. Turning around, she saw a man in a suit and name tag, looking like a secretary, walking briskly towards her. He waved at her from afar and urged, "Cleaning, come here quickly! The secretary-general's office needs cleaning; you need to go and take care of it right away!"
Although Yan Lan was unwilling, she didn't dare to show any weakness. She could only pick up the bucket at her feet, grab a rag, and follow the secretary to the office in front.
When Si Chu's office door was pushed open, Yan Lan immediately saw a tall figure standing by the window—Si Chu.
He had his back to the door, his gaze fixed on the tops of the sycamore trees outside the window, exuding a cold aura that kept strangers at bay.
On the ground, a spilled cup of coffee was spreading along the cracks in the floor, leaving a dark brown stain.
Mixed with the rich aroma of coffee was a faint, elusive fragrance, crisp and slightly cool, which made Yan Lan stop in her tracks instantly.
This scent is exactly the same as the perfume that "Zero" (Bai Xiaoyu) wore before.
That woman must have been here not long ago.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and get ready!" The secretary behind her pushed her, her tone still urgent. "Secretary-General has a meeting with the Governor later. Don't delay the important matters. Hurry up!"
Suppressing the turmoil in her heart, Yan Lan squatted down with the bucket of water. As soon as the rag touched the coffee stains, her gaze swept over the desk without making a sound.
By the time Yan Lan finished tidying up and looked up again, Si Chu had already left.
Yan Lan thought about it and decided to come to Zhoufu again tomorrow.
