Chapter 552 - 543: Visiting in Person
Chapter 552 - 543: Visiting in Person
Facing the teasing, both overt and covert, from this little car-racing widow, there was nothing he could do.
Her driving skills were leagues ahead of Shen Yi and Tang Nan. She definitely wouldn’t drive openly or recklessly, but would find a way to suggestively hint you with words that seemed innocuous yet left your imagination running wild.
The words had no issue whatsoever, but they always made you feel like she was implying something else, crazily racing.
Like when she said don’t drive Shen Yi’s car, as hers hadn’t been driven by anyone yet. Which man could resist? Anyway, he didn’t dare to take the challenge.
As for why he was so quick to agree to the landlord’s invitation, mainly because she was now helping him make money. Plus, he was the younger one, visiting was the right thing to do. He shouldn’t even need the landlord to remind him, he should have thought of it himself.
Now that he had forgotten, she came to remind him. If he still made excuses, he would be seen as ungrateful, and Old Mr. Wen might even think he was too solitary and hard to approach.
Dealing with the elderly is an art form. After all, they have their own unspoken rules. You don’t have to agree, but when they are lifting you up, you have to follow their rules.
Although he found the path to invest in film and theater, the results had not yet materialized by this time, and Old Mr. Wen was the first elder willing to guide him. During holidays, it was naturally expected to pay a visit.
Relationships are like this. If you don’t visit, even relatives can become distant. Conversely, if you frequently visit, even strangers could become close as family.
Moreover, when visiting such an elder, he couldn’t go empty-handed. Not only should he not go empty-handed, but he should also bring more things. Luckily, there weren’t any dogs at Old Mr. Wen’s house.
On the other side, Wen Nanqing had just returned from his place and immediately sent the photos she took to Shen Yi and Tang Nan.
As she expected, not even two minutes after she sent the photos, a video call popped up on her phone.
"Hey? This doesn’t look like Su’s house. Sunny sister, you took advantage of little Yi not being around to flirt with her boyfriend!" Tang Nan said with a mischievous smile.
Even Shen Yi teased, "How about it, Sunny sister? What dreams and aspirations have you been chatting about with my brother?"
"Tsk tsk tsk, we talked a lot. When it comes to men, I know more than you two. I already made a deal with little Su that since I’m not driving my car, he should help me out!" The landlady said brazenly.
"Ah, ah, ah, look at her, little Yi! Seizing the opportunity to come between us." Tang Nan instigated with laughter.
To this, Shen Yi replied confidently, "It’s fine, Sunny sister said while I’m not around, she’ll help with the maintenance and return to me a technically upgraded brother when I’m back."
"That’s right, I am thoughtful. Oh, by the way, little Su will be going home with me tomorrow. You see, I’m blessed. I just said a word, and little Su is here to follow me home!" The landlady laughed.
This made Shen Yi grind her teeth. She knew it wasn’t that kind of going home, but it was just infuriating. Not to mention, in terms of meeting the parents, an outsider had met them more often than she, the official girlfriend.
Su Qing not only met all of Wen Nanqing’s family, but Wen Nanqing had also met Su Qing’s mother and sister. Compared to that, she hadn’t even met her boyfriend’s father yet.
Seeing Shen Yi’s puffed-up cheeks, the landlady laughed heartily.
That evening, Su Qing received a video call from Shen Yi.
"You’re going home with Sunny sister?"
"Yeah, Uncle Wen even retired and still supports a youngster like me. It’s almost New Year, how could I not pay a visit? If it weren’t for Sunny sister’s reminder, I almost forgot!" Su Qing spoke with some lingering fear.
Shen Yi nodded, "You should. Here’s the deal, when you buy gifts, bring one from me too. I’ll send you a list in a bit."
Back when Wen Jingqi’s project came about while she was there, with her years of running a business, there’s no way she wouldn’t know the reason behind it.
There’s no love without reason in this world. Even for her, if Su Qing hadn’t saved her back then, they wouldn’t even have intersected, nor would she be interested in getting to know Su Qing. It’s the same with Old Mr. Wen.
It’s all because Su Qing helped out Wen Nanqing before, plus having her connection, that Su Qing caught their attention.
Later, Su Qing himself completed the capital accumulation, allowing both families to collaborate.
If not, just look at Wen Jingqi’s wife’s relative. Without that financial backing, they’d only be able to work for others at best. Wanting to collaborate wouldn’t even be a consideration.
"Alright, I’ll go get them!"
"Yeah, now kiss me!"
"Let’s not, kissing through the phone feels weird!"
"Don’t, don’t! Quick, quick! Sister’s battery’s almost dead. Talk to me more!"
Faced with Shen Yi’s sudden coquetry, he had no choice but to respond, kissing through the phone for a full five minutes, giving Shen Yi some battery back.
Then, he grabbed the list and drove out to shop.
For gifts, the usual items—tobacco, alcohol, sugar, tea, health products, and adding some fruits to make it look decent. This time is different from last; he had to bring something significant, as they were lifting him up, after all.
The next morning, Wen Nanqing knocked on his door, bringing him two pairs of Spring Festival couplets to put up when he had time.
"Geez, weren’t we talking about driving my car!" She complained, in the car, since there were quite a few cars in the underground garage, she wanted to take the opportunity to drive one. Cars do spoil if they aren’t driven for an extended period.
"It’s just that there’s too much stuff in the car, moving back and forth would be a hassle. Next time, next time for sure!" Su Qing chuckled.
"You always say next time for sure. How many times have you driven my cars? Besides, what’s a few fewer days of driving little Yi’s car gonna do? Anyway, listen, you’re not buying a car before you get married. It’s just for commuting. Those cars downstairs, drive them for me, alright? I’m past that age where I care about cars. If you don’t drive them next year, I’ll just sell them." Wen Nanqing pouted slightly.
After all, weren’t they family? Why was he being so distant? Moreover, she needed it.
Su Qing could only helplessly scratch his head.
Meanwhile, in the suburban living room, Wen’s mother paced back and forth, glancing outside frequently.
"Oh dear, why aren’t they here yet? Didn’t they say they already left?"
Seeing this, Wen Jingqi chuckled, "Mom, stop rushing. Little Qing already said they were on the way. What could possibly happen? Besides, it’s not like the family’s son-in-law is visiting. Why are you so eager? If you have free time, go check on Dad and little Yun. They’re having a blast in the backyard."
Upon hearing this, Wen’s mother glared, "You mind your own business! If I like that boy Su, what’s the matter? He’s kind-hearted, a good person, and most importantly, he’s capable. Now tell me, what were you doing at his age?
If not for securing a future for you all, would your dad and I be worrying about your social connections at our age?"
In response, Wen Jingqi sheepishly shut his mouth.
Regarding the cooperation project with Su Qing, even Wen Nanqing could see the reasoning. How could he not understand? However, he still believed in his heart that Su Qing had some luck involved.
But there was one thing he was absolutely satisfied with about this partner: Su Qing never meddled with his projects. He only visited the site once and didn’t give any advice. At least he never dragged anything down.
While they were talking, the sound of a car came from the entrance, parking perfectly right beneath their house.
"Oh, it should be little Su and the others coming. Quick, quick, quick, call your dad over from the back!"
Saying this, Wen’s mother immediately left the room, heading for the courtyard gate.
Seeing this, Wen Jingqi couldn’t help but sigh. He always felt that his mother was more devoted to an outsider than to her actual son. Even if it were a son-in-law, he wouldn’t feel so jealous, but they weren’t even that.
