Chapter 1982 Dare not gamble
The Huxi Branch of the Military Police.
Pan Qingyu was stunned when he saw Xishun, who had been brought by the Japanese.
“Mr. Lou,” Oda Hideto said to Kishun, “Mr. Pan is your employer, and you two are old acquaintances. Please persuade Mr. Pan to stop being so stubborn.”
"I'll try my best," Xi Shun said, but he didn't dare look Pan Qingyu in the eye.
“I’ll be right outside. Just call me if you need anything,” said Hideto Oda.
"Understood," Xi Shun said.
……
After leaving the torture cell, Oda Hideto went to the next room.
“The equipment is working properly,” Nishita Taisaburo reported to Oda Hideto, handing him a pair of headphones.
There was a slight buzzing sound from the headphones, but the conversation inside the cell could still be heard fairly clearly.
……
“Traitor!” Pan Qingyu said through gritted teeth as he looked at Xi Shun.
“Master, I didn’t want this,” Xi Shun cried. “The Japanese arrested my mother, Xiao Qin, and the children. If I don’t give in, they will harm people. Master, you know, the Japanese are inhuman.”
Inside the listening room.
Nishita Taisaburo glanced at Oda Hideto.
Hideto Oda didn't seem angry; his expression was calm, and his thumb and middle finger were silently rubbing together.
“You traitor! Shameless, you—” Pan Qingyu pointed at Xishun, but couldn’t finish his curse.
He couldn't accept the fact that Xi Shun had betrayed him, but he couldn't be completely indifferent to the reasons for Xi Shun's betrayal.
"What did you say?" Pan Qingyu questioned.
“I’ve told you everything I can say, everything I know,” Xi Shun cried. “I dared not not to tell you. The Japanese had a knife to the child’s neck, and my mother and mother-in-law were almost violated by those beasts.”
"You also mentioned what happened at the warehouse?" Pan Qingyu asked.
“The Japanese asked you about taking me to the warehouse and then getting rid of me. I…” Xi Shun glanced at Pan Qingyu and said, “I told them the truth.”
“You—” Pan Qingyu looked at Xishun, his teeth clenched with hatred.
Although what Xi Shun said wasn't a particularly important secret, he never dared to underestimate the enemy's intelligence and ability. He couldn't rule out the possibility that the enemy might discover some clues from these subtle details.
He looked at Xishun, then closed his eyes in anguish. "Go away. I don't want to see you again."
……
“Master,” Xi Shun looked at Pan Qingyu, gritted his teeth, and said, “Why don’t you just tell me?”
"What did you say?" Pan Qingyu's eyes widened suddenly as he looked at Xi Shun. "Am I blind? I misjudged you. Are you determined to become a traitor?"
"Master, it pains me to see you suffering like this," Xi Shun cried. He came up to check on Pan Qingyu's injuries and whispered, "Master, is there anything I can do to help you?"
Pan Qingyu stared at Xishun with a cautious gaze tinged with serious suspicion and scrutiny.
Xi Shun raised her head, tears streaming down her face, and just looked at Pan Qingyu.
"Get out!" Pan Qingyu roared.
He didn't know if Xishun still had a shred of conscience. Perhaps Xishun was forced into becoming a traitor, and perhaps he still had a desire to atone for his sins by doing something for the resistance against Japan.
However, he didn't dare to gamble.
As a veteran Bolshevik fighter, he had experienced and seen too much. He dared not gamble. He was not afraid of death, but he was afraid that his recklessness would harm his comrades and implicate the organization.
……
“Mr. Oda,” Xi Shun reported to Oda Hideto, “I did as you instructed. Pan Qingyu was very cautious and he didn’t fall for it.”
“Very good, I told you long ago that as long as you cooperate, the Great Japanese Empire will treat its friends well.” Oda Hideto said with a smile, and Kishun’s report was consistent with what he had heard in the listening room.
He patted Xishun on the shoulder and said, "Your son is very cute, I like him very much."
"My son is unworthy of Mr. Oda's praise," Xi Shun said.
"Don't worry, you can rest assured." Oda Hideto laughed heartily, "How could I bear to turn such a lovely child into a cold corpse?"
Looking at Xishun's face, he smiled and said, "Go, go see your son."
"Thank you, Mr. Oda," Kishun said quickly, then hurriedly left with a military policeman.
"Captain, it seems this scheme has yielded no results," said Saito Taisaburo.
“No, it wasn’t all for naught.” Oda Hideto shook his head and said, “At least Pan Qingyu’s unintentional remark confirmed that our judgment was correct and that our investigation was on the right track.”
He said in a deep voice, "The warehouse is a very important location, and the person who went to the warehouse is the one we are looking for."
“The fact that this test has been proven makes this attempt very effective,” Hideto Oda said with a smile. “Remember, we can be anxious, but when doing things, we must never let impatience cloud our judgment or blind us to our senses.”
"Hai."
"Send someone to keep a close eye on Lou Xishun," said Oda Hideto.
Xi Shun was forced to surrender after all; such a person is not truly surrendering, so we must be wary of him.
"Hai."
……
On an evening in early August, Shanghai was hit by torrential rain, so much so that the streets, usually bustling with people, were almost deserted.
Amidst the lightning and thunder, the occasional gunshots seemed to be drowned out.
"Where have people gone?"
"Search!" Dong Zhengguo waved his hand and gave the order with a cold face.
"Section Chief, we couldn't find it."
"Section Chief, no one's here."
Dong Zhengguo wiped the rain off his face and squinted at it.
"Have you searched that area?" he pointed.
"Section Chief, that's the police station's SWAT team," Zhao Yan quickly reminded him.
"Of course I know that's the Special Police Unit," Dong Zhengguo retorted irritably. "So what if it's the Special Police Unit? What if the target takes advantage of the chaos and hides inside?"
"Section Chief, how is that possible? The brothers are following him so closely, and he's injured. How could he possibly have a chance to hide in the SWAT team?"
"Besides, that's the Special Police Department. That kid isn't stupid enough to walk right into a trap."
……
"Idiots!" Dong Zhengguo cursed. "Have you forgotten who that kid used to be?"
"The Special Police Department is a den of dragons and tigers for other people, impossible to infiltrate, but for Su Zhe, it's all too familiar," Dong Zhengguo said. "Su Zhe has worked in the Central Police Station for so many years, he knows every nook and cranny like the back of his hand, every nook and cranny with a dog hole. It wouldn't be difficult for him to sneak into the Special Police Department's compound."
"Section Chief, what's your opinion..."
"Go up and knock on the door," Dong Zhengguo said irritably. "Just say we're asking the special police to help us search for and arrest the Red Army."
"understood."
