Chapter 126 Azoth's Theorem Proof (Part 4)
Chapter 126 Azoth's Theorem Proof (Part 4)
Conan looked at the contents of the diary in silence, feeling that things might not be that simple.
Sure enough, the situation recorded in the diary began to take a sharp turn for the worse.
"It's really strange. The old guard said he always hears rustling noises at night, but there shouldn't be outsiders in the library. I feel like 'Homonkuluz' must have escaped from the bottle, but every time I go to see him, he stays quietly in the flask, eyes closed, and doesn't react to any noise from the outside world. But I'm sure he can hear us talking. He always blinks secretly when I'm the only one paying attention to him."
"Director Philemon has been murdered! I can't believe it, this isn't true! The director's body is lying on the floor of his office, and behind the bookshelf is a symbol of the element of air! 'Homokunkuz' is also missing, and the flask containing him is broken, leaving nothing inside. The police still believe it was a burglary, while the old guard says someone wanted to steal the director's alchemical achievements. A terrifying thought suddenly occurred to me: perhaps the criminal is 'Homokunkuz'? Oh, Ms. Maria, how could I have such an idea..."
Conan was also a little dumbfounded: "Can alchemical products actually kill their creators? Or is this still a cover-up for the truth like before?"
Conan couldn't wait to turn to the next page of the diary. The next page should be about what he learned about Director Zangyue this morning.
"Director Cangyue has taken over, and he's also obsessed with refining the Philosopher's Stone. Honestly, I'm scared. Two directors have already stumbled with the Philosopher's Stone. I wonder if Director Cangyue will follow in their footsteps."
"Director Cangyue has a twin brother named Helios. He's not a member of the Esoteric Cult, but he's quite interested in alchemy. The old guard once scolded Helios for being untalented and unlearned."
"Helios is indeed a bit paranoid. He often argues with Director Cangyue. I dare not rebuke Helios, nor do I dare to participate in Director Cangyue's experiments. Yes, I am afraid that the curse of the Philosopher's Stone will be passed on to me."
"Tonight, while I was tidying up the bookshelves, I saw Director Cangyue coming over. It was strange. I remember him being on break by this time of day. He explained to me that he had a new experiment that needed to be proven."
"It's that time again, and Director Cangyue is in the lab in the middle of the night again. I've heard that some esoteric rituals do require specific times and conditions, but doing it every night seems quite suspicious... What was I thinking? How dare I question Director Cangyue?"
Conan had a bad feeling that the "Director of the Zangyue Pavilion" that the housekeeper met at night might be Helios in disguise.
"I saw two Curator Cangyue! I'm sure of it! One was lying on the ground, and the other was hiding behind the door and laughing. I must have seen it wrong! No, no, no, that wasn't Curator Cangyue, that was Helios. He killed Curator Cangyue, but why?"
"Helios didn't notice me. I saw Director Cangyue's ring finger cut off along with his director's ring, and the symbol of the element of fire was painted on the wall. Could Helios have also done the first two incidents? That's impossible. He's just a copycat. Should I tell the old guard the truth?"
"The police investigation is complete. They believe Director Cangyue committed suicide, having ingested a highly corrosive potion. The old guard is furious. He criticizes the police for their incompetence and Helios for not participating in the investigation."
Conan's heart tightened. "Helios must have been responsible for Director Zangyue's death, but why didn't the housekeeper tell the old guard about it? Is she afraid of the so-called curse?"
The next content should be about Director Arya Miller. Conan thought so and turned to the next page of the diary, but found only one line of words written on the page: "I know you discovered this, but as long as I succeed, then it will be the turn of the cult to look up to me."
There is no new content after that. Conan feels that Helios must have discovered the housekeeper's secret, perhaps coercing her or killing her to silence her. In any case, the secret passage in the library is likely to hide the truth.
Thinking of this, Conan put the diary and the book back in their original places, but he never expected that one of the books would slip to the ground, making a slight sound. Then he heard footsteps coming from a distance.
Conan, feeling guilty, quickly turned off the flashlight and hid behind a pile of books.
The footsteps were getting closer and closer. Conan, suspecting that the footsteps might come from the murderer Helios, covered his mouth tightly to prevent himself from making any sound.
The man stopped in front of the pile of books where Conan was hiding for a while, and then left. Hearing the footsteps going away, Conan breathed a sigh of relief.
But just as he was about to raise his head and stand up, he saw a familiar face appear before him. The blue water element symbol on his left eye shimmered in the darkness, and Fool's Gold (Stibnite) covered his mouth as he tried to scream.
Fool Gold used considerable strength, his voice rasping with gritted teeth. "This is outrageous! They sent you here to find me? I've said many times that I don't want to get involved in their affairs. Don't you think my side isn't chaotic enough?"
Conan thought that Fool Gold might think that he was called by other members of the Orientis Organization. He grabbed Fool Gold's hand that was covering his mouth with one hand and waved the other hand quickly, trying to defend himself.
As if he understood what Conan wanted to say, Fool's Gold let go of his hand.
Conan took a deep breath. "They didn't write to me this time. Huh...it's another commission."
Fool Gold was much calmer now. "It seems this matter has nothing to do with you. I've been getting annoyed to death by those two groups lately."
"what happened?"
"You know, it's quite difficult to remain neutral when there's internal fighting within the organization."
"So you think I'm a lobbyist they sent?"
Fool Gold nodded. "A weak alchemist like me is better suited to staying quietly in the library and conducting experiments."
[Entomologist: Redefining the weak.]
[Prisoner: I am a weak machine repairman.]
[Batter: I'm in the ob position with no self-protection.]
[Forward: I'm the weak OB who repairs machines.]
[Fool's Gold: That's enough.]
Conan's eyes widened: "You? Weak?"
"Believe it or not, I'm one of the weaker supervisors." Fool Gold spread his hands helplessly.
Conan showed his half-moon eyes directly to Fool Gold, obviously not believing it.
"Besides, this isn't the place to talk. Besides you, there are other outsiders wandering around this library."
Fool Gold took Conan to his office and locked the door.
Elsewhere, hearing the noise, Toru Amuro walked over from Director Zangetsu's office, but saw nothing. He had already searched several rooms in the library, and except for Director Zangetsu's office, which he had visited that afternoon, all the other directors' offices were locked. Finding nothing, he decided to return to Zangetsu's office to search.
Conan sat in a chair, watching Fool Gold fiddling with something on the table beside him. To get the answer he wanted, he decided to take the initiative: "So, you are the missing Director Mars, then you should know the truth about the other two cases that occurred in the library, right?"
"You really can't let go of the desire to pursue the truth no matter where you go. I don't have enough time tonight, but I can talk to you briefly."
