Chapter 143: The Dark Pursuer (Part 1)
Chapter 143: The Dark Pursuer (Part 1)
In the evening, Conan was alone in the detective agency, packing his equipment for his outing with Professor Agasa tomorrow. While looking for a flashlight, he heard an unusual noise coming from outside the door.
So he opened the door and looked towards the corridor: "Who is it? Is it Sister Xiaolan?"
There was no one outside the corridor.
"Did I hear wrongly?"
Conan closed the door and turned back into the room, but was caught off guard by Gin's murderous face.
"Long time no see, Kudo Shinichi." Gin covered Conan's mouth and held him against the door frame. "No, I should call you Edogawa Conan now. I didn't expect you to be alive after turning into a little ghost."
"It's really surprising, brother." Vodka exclaimed from the side.
Conan, who was unable to speak, was extremely anxious. He couldn't understand why his identity was exposed like this.
At this moment, Xiaolan's voice came from the corridor outside: "Conan, what's wrong? I just heard a loud noise."
Vodka walked to the door with a gun, while Gin grabbed Conan and walked to the back, twisting Conan's head and forcing him to look towards the door.
"Look carefully at what fate the people who are involved with you will face."
Xiaolan's voice outside the door is getting closer and closer: "Conan, are you okay? Are you in there?"
The smile on Gin's face became more and more ferocious. Conan struggled but to no avail. He could only watch as Vodka raised his gun and pointed it at Xiaolan who was about to come in from outside the door.
As the door handle was gently turned, Conan's inner tension and anxiety reached its peak.
Just when he wanted to scream desperately, he found that the gin and vodka in front of him turned into black smoke and disappeared, and it was quiet outside the door, as if nothing had happened yet.
Conan, still terrified, quickly opened the door and looked out into the corridor, only to find that the corridor had disappeared at some point, replaced by a long, spiraling stone staircase that spiraled downward. Looking down from above, the staircase seemed to form a whirlpool, ready to swallow anyone into darkness at any moment.
Conan mustered up his courage, turned on the flashlight and ran down the stairs. He didn't know how long the spiral staircase was. Conan just felt that a very long time had passed. Along the way, he could hear the hissing of snakes, the giggles of women, and the whispers of children.
Finally, he reached the bottom of the stairs. On an ancient stone door, there was a strange pattern similar to a five-pointed star. The pattern was flashing with a lavender light, flickering on and off.
Conan felt that the door seemed to have life, and the flickering light was as if it was breathing.
Finally, the curiosity to find out overwhelmed the fear, prompting Conan to push open the door. Conan was surprised that the door was not heavy, and he easily entered the other side of the door. However, the scene inside the door was equally terrifying.
The environment here was like the bottom of a deep pit, with a large number of snakes coiled and wriggling here. The incredible number made Conan feel his scalp tingling. He turned around and found that the door had disappeared without a trace. He had no way to go back and could only move towards the far end of the deep pit.
Conan carefully avoided the snakes at his feet, or rather, these snakes had no intention of approaching Conan at all. Even when Conan accidentally touched them, they would actively flee and make way for him.
Conan was very surprised by this and walked all the way to the darkest part of the pit, where stood a huge snake sculpture with the familiar mark of the Muse engraved on the bottom of the sculpture.
The moment he touched the mark, the darkness vanished. Conan realized the environment had changed again. He was now standing on the seashore, where waves regularly washed over the shore. Scattered on the shore were some fishing gear and some dilapidated boats. Not far away, an even larger ship, apparently already damaged, was docked.
Conan looked around blankly, but found that a line of words appeared on the shore in front of him under the washing of the waves.
"Hello, Edogawa Conan, or Kudo Shinichi, you found this place."
Conan felt that all this was difficult to explain scientifically, so he casually asked, "Where is this place? And who are you?"
A line of words emerged: "This is your dream, and I am an uninvited visitor."
Conan couldn't believe it, but he also felt it made sense: "If this is really a dream, then why did I dream about these? Am I under too much pressure recently? First it was Gin, then it was Oletus..."
The waves brought a new line of text: "A living being is far more interesting than those dry pieces of paper. I am very optimistic about you."
Conan, who didn't understand what this meant:?
Conan felt that he was probably under too much pressure and his mind was not clear. He just thought that he should go out with Professor Agasa tomorrow to relax and relieve the recent mental stress.
"Please, if this is my dream, then I just want to have a good sleep." Conan closed his eyes and prayed silently.
He heard a woman's sharp laughter in his ears, then he opened his eyes and saw waves several meters high crashing towards him. He was caught off guard and was swept into the water. After choking on water several times, he suddenly woke up.
Cold sweat had wet his forehead. Conan looked around and found himself on the bed, with Kogoro Mouri lying next to him, who had just returned from playing mahjong and was snoring.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Conan lay down again and closed his eyes: "Huh, what a weird dream."
[Professor: The witch lady won't put the mark on Conan, will she?]
[Dream Witch: I can find this little guy anytime I want. Invading his dreams is easy for me. I don't need any additional markings.]
[First Mate: I'm sweating profusely from watching this.]
[Sorcerer: Calm down. At least the witch didn't use her power to influence Conan. Otherwise, we would have seen Darren have a new partner in the future.]
[Priest: Starting with two native believers is not funny.]
[The Lord in Yellow: Ha, He was just bored and was deliberately playing tricks on people in their dreams.]
[Dream Witch: What a joke! This is just my little entertainment.]
The next day, Conan woke up from his bed and was still frightened by the strange dream he had last night, but fortunately he would be going out soon to meet Professor Agasa and the others to go to the Beika Forest to play.
Rubbing his face to wake himself up from his half-asleep state, Conan stood in the bathroom brushing his teeth and washing up. Just as he finished washing his face and was about to hang the towel back, the woman's sharp laughter rang in his ears again.
Conan was frightened and fell off the stool. Ran, who heard the noise, ran in and asked with concern: "Conan, are you okay?"
"It's okay, I just didn't stand firmly." Conan got up from the ground with a grin, and looked at the wash mirror with lingering fear. The mirror reflected his face, which looked a little tired because of the nightmare he had last night. A snake-like black shadow flashed in the mirror.
Conan rubbed his eyes and looked in the mirror again, only to find nothing. He patted his head, feeling that he had indeed become a bit nervous recently due to the Black Organization and Oletus's annoyance. Fortunately, he would be able to go out with Professor Agasa and the others to relax soon.
