Chapter 274: The Ghost of the Crystal Palace (Part 4)
Chapter 274: The Ghost of the Crystal Palace (Part 4)
After a while, Duke White Crow and the Crystal Palace staff chased out.
"Stop, stop!" Duke White Crow ran out of the wax museum and looked at the mechanic. "Who are you? You just came out of the wax museum?"
Just as the prisoner was about to step forward to explain, the mechanic stepped forward and explained, "I'm a safety inspector hired by the Jeweler's Baroness Diamond. I was just touring and inspecting the wax museum. After all, the Baroness expects that every aspect of the exhibition has certain safety measures."
"Ensure security measures? Baroness? That woman never told me about this! You are suspicious!"
Conan was stunned for a moment. It involved jewelry, and it was a "countess". If this was someone sent by the Melodi family, then it could only be the "Mary clone" in a purple dress who appeared at Melodi's banquet.
"Your Excellency, wait a minute. Judging from her figure, this young lady doesn't match the ghost that appeared earlier," the savage who had chased her out explained breathlessly. "Also, there aren't any signs of gunshot wounds on her body..."
The prisoner suggested a solution: "Your Excellency, we can ask her employer, the Lady Baroness, to testify."
Duke White Crow snorted disdainfully: "The Baroness has gone out and hasn't returned yet. Now there's no one to testify for you, and no one can guarantee you!"
The prisoner cleared his throat helplessly: "Ahem, Mr. Duke, I can vouch for this lady. She and I are friends."
"What? You two actually know each other?" Duke White Crow glanced suspiciously between the prisoner and the mechanic.
"No! What if you two are in cahoots?"
The prisoner had no choice but to continue, "Mr. Duke, you should still remember the rebuff you received from Professor Lorenz. It seems you haven't given up on harassing my teacher since then, and now you're even suspicious of me, your student and friend. Is this another ploy to pressure my teacher?"
"Mr. Duke, please think about this. If this gets out of hand, the Academy might intervene. Then, the Crystal Palace exhibition won't be the headlines in the newspapers anymore. How will you deal with the subsequent loss of revenue?"
The prisoner's threats successfully silenced the White Crow Duke, but he quickly sneered back, "Hmph, if she gets into any trouble, you'll be fully responsible! Besides, this concerns your teacher's reputation!"
"Okay, get out of the way! Everyone, continue investigating the ghost!" Duke White Crow waved his hand to let the staff continue working, then left.
Sonoko complained unhappily, "What a nasty duke! How could he be so difficult?"
The mechanic held his forehead helplessly. "This Duke is just harsh in his words. Sometimes, he says sweet words and greets you with a smile, but the ones who stab you in the back are the ones who are truly annoying."
"I'm sorry, Luca, I seem to have gotten you into trouble."
The prisoner had a grin on his face: "Hey, that's nothing. We've known each other for years, so it's only natural for me to help. To hell with that stinky crow head!"
[Novelist: I suspect you are implying something about me!]
[Mechanic: Hahahahahaha! I'm dying of laughter!]
[Lucky: Hey, don't tell me, I worked really hard to stick to the script.]
[Novelist: I didn’t ask you!]
[Explorer: Suspected oxygen face breach.]
[Novelist: You shut up too!]
The prisoner then added, "Tracy, since I'm here to vouch for you, could you please not tell the teacher that I'm doing research secretly?"
The mechanic was stunned. "No, you're really doing research secretly?"
"Oh my god! So you were trying to trick me by saying you were going to tell on me? I managed to keep it a secret for so long!"
"Tricking you? I'll smash you to death!" the mechanic said, picking up his small handbag and smashing it against the prisoner's head. "Give me back the favor I gave you!"
"I'm wrong, I'm wrong! If you hit my smart head again, it will become stupid!" The prisoner apologized while covering his head.
"Hmph!" The mechanic stood aside with an unhappy look on his face.
[Prisoner: I want to apply for work-related compensation...]
[Mechanic: Just give your head some electricity and it will be cured.]
[Aviator: If anyone else did this, they might be courting death, but if it was Luca, it's a different matter.]
[Meteorologist: I suddenly wanted to see if I could make a thundercloud.]
[Antique Dealer: Summon a thundercloud to kill the supervisor? Good idea.]
[Jack: Huh?]
[Factory Manager: Huh?]
[Hermit: Perhaps it can be used in machine repair.]
[Sculptor: Mr. Alva, whose side are you on?]
[Evil Lizard: Damn, he has electrodes that can prevent survivors from using skills. With such a high tolerance rate, of course he doesn't care.]
After rubbing the bump on his head, the prisoner finally came to his senses and asked the savage what had happened.
"Mr. Guard, could you please tell me what happened just now when the ghost appeared?"
"Someone just saw a ghost passing through the corridor, rushing into the wax museum, and never coming out again. But we have searched the wax museum and didn't find any suspicious people. Believe it or not, the ghost disappeared out of thin air again!"
The Savage calmed down and continued, "By the way, the only thing in the entire wax museum besides the wax figures is this suspicious manuscript. We originally thought it belonged to the owner of the wax museum, but a closer look shows it doesn't resemble the original."
"Can you show me?" Conan jumped between the savages and the prisoners, trying to attract attention.
The savage naturally handed the manuscript to Conan. Conan thought it would contain information about the members of the Oletus, because he guessed that the owner of this wax museum should be Mr. Philip, the wax sculptor. After all, he was the only member of the Oletus who was related to the wax figure.
However, this manuscript seems to have nothing to do with the wax artist. A model of a perpetual motion machine is drawn on the front, and a text that looks like a prophecy fragment is on the back.
"The Crystal Palace will be filled with rainbows, fireworks, and will also witness the birth of a perpetual motion machine!"
Conan held up the manuscript, with the prisoner and the mechanic standing on both sides. The three of them put their heads together and saw the prophetic words.
The mechanic looked at the prisoner with suspicion: "Why do I feel like there's something fishy about the origin of this manuscript?"
The prisoner scratched his head: "Uh, this... I think I wrote this before."
Conan looked at the prisoner with his crescent eyes: "Brother Luca, you really haven't changed your bad habits."
However, the Savage swore solemnly, "This must be a prank, no, or rather a 'crime warning'! This is what arrogant troublemakers like to do. I swear by my name 'accidental discoverer'!"
"Well, this troublemaker is standing right in front of you now." The mechanic pointed at the prisoner and said.
The Savage looked completely incredulous. "Miss, please don't be ridiculous! How could the Investigator be a troublemaker? This must be some bad guy trying to take advantage of the Crystal Palace's long-planned exhibition to cause trouble!"
"This manuscript must be the key clue, but there have been so many people coming in and out of the wax museum these days that it's difficult to check them all..."
While the savage was mumbling, the prisoner whispered to the crowd, "To avoid any trouble, please keep my connection to the manuscript a secret."
Everyone naturally nodded in agreement.
