Chapter 509 Mr. Y is indeed quite impressive.
Chapter 509 Mr. Y is indeed quite impressive.
Out of the corner of Yu Huan's eye, she inadvertently caught Lin You Rong secretly glancing in her direction through the rearview mirror.
He felt a surge of laughter welling up inside, but he forced it back and deliberately cleared his throat.
He then straightened his back, raised his chin, and, looking exactly like a proper announcer, solemnly declared in a clear and resonant voice: "Dear Ms. Lin Yourong, we sincerely invite you to embrace this expectation and sing your heart out on the stage tonight, so that you may win the first place!"
"Who's looking forward to it!"
Lin Yourong lightly punched his arm with her fair fist, the action carrying a hint of coquettishness.
Along the way, the young couple chatted and flirted, filling the carriage with laughter.
Time flew by in this relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, and in the blink of an eye, Hunan TV's iconic toilet-shaped building appeared in the field of vision.
Yu Huan steered the BMW steadily and casually to the curb, then stepped on the brake.
He quickly turned to face Lin Yourong, clenched his fists, and cheered her on loudly with enthusiasm: "Go, wife! Once you stand on the stage and open your mouth, the number one spot will definitely be yours!"
"You're so talkative, I can't let my guard down." Lin Yourong's eyebrows curved like two crescent moons, and a gentle smile, as warm as the spring sun, graced her lips.
She raised her hand, stroked Yu Huan's cheek, and whispered, "Let's go~"
"Okay, honey, please take care."
Yu Huan wore a bright smile as she watched Lin Yourong's graceful figure walk towards the entrance of the broadcasting center through the glass window.
Only after her figure completely disappeared from sight did Yu Huan reach into his pocket and take out his phone.
He slid his fingers across the screen with practiced ease and quickly dialed Yu Songnian's number.
After a few rings, Yu Songnian's somewhat muffled and nasal voice came from the other end of the line: "Brother Huan, why did you suddenly think of calling me? Have you returned to Xingcheng from Wuling?"
"I've been back in Xingcheng for several days," Yu Huan said slowly, leaning back in the driver's seat. "I'm going home later, are you still there?"
Yu Songnian chuckled on the other end of the phone and replied, "Of course I'm here. It's not like I'm going to visit any distant relatives. Is Sister Rong coming back with you?"
"She was recording a program at the Broadcasting Center today. I just dropped her off here and will drive over right away. I mainly want to bring some vegetables that I grow at home back to Changsha to eat," Yu Huan explained patiently.
"You're here and then leaving?" Yu Songnian asked, puzzled.
“No, I’m planning to go fishing with the old man, and then leave in the evening. I’ll also pick up your sister-in-law from the broadcasting center,” Yu Huan replied.
"Oh, I'm still in bed. I'll get up right away, brush my teeth and wash my face, and then I'll come to your house to wait for you," Yu Songnian said hastily.
Yu Huan couldn't help but joke, "Then we'll have to have a competition to see who's faster."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone.
Immediately afterwards, Yu Songnian's voice, as if suddenly realizing something, came through the receiver: "Oh right, the Broadcasting Center is quite on the way. It should only take you about ten minutes to get back from there."
"Okay, I'll talk to you later, I'm driving," Yu Huan said.
"Okay, Huan-ge, why don't you just pick me up on your way?" Yu Songnian tentatively asked.
"No problem," Yu Huan readily agreed.
After this casual chat, Yu Huan hung up the phone.
After a moment's thought, his fingers flew across the phone screen as he typed a text message and sent it to Teacher Wu.
She was informed that she had just dropped Lin Yourong off at the Broadcasting Center to record a program and was now alone, about to drive home to accompany her grandfather fishing.
Immediately, Yu Huan gently tossed his phone onto the armrest and steadily pressed down on the accelerator.
In an instant, the little BMW shot off like an arrow, its engine roaring and breaking the morning silence.
The trees lining the road rushed past.
As we got closer to the town, those familiar scenes unfolded like a slowly unfurling scroll, one by one, into view.
The branches along the roadside swayed gently in the breeze, as if they were waving enthusiastically to Yu Huan.
In the distance, the houses, with their white walls and black tiles, are scattered in a pleasing pattern. Bathed in the gentle morning light, they create a simple yet heartwarming rural scene.
All of this made Yu Huan feel incredibly warm and a sense of belonging welled up in her heart.
The little BMW sped along, and soon turned left, going up the slope to reach Yu Songnian's courtyard.
Yu Huan pulled the handbrake and looked up. He saw that Yu Songnian's gate was ajar, and there was no one in the yard.
He immediately turned off the engine, opened the car door, and got out.
Upon arriving at his younger brother's house, there was no need to stand on ceremony. Yu Huan casually opened the door and stepped inside.
He glanced around the lobby and found it empty. Then he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Song Nian!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a series of muffled footsteps were heard coming from the restroom on the other side.
Immediately afterwards, Yu Songnian, with a toothbrush in his mouth, poked his head out.
His mouth was full of white foam, and his speech was slurred: "Huan-guo, you're here, that was fast!"
Yu Huan put her hands on her hips, a smile on her face, and asked, "Are you the only one in your family?"
"I don't know, maybe my parents went to town to buy things," Yu Songnian said, then shrank back into his big head.
Yu Huan didn't wait around; she walked straight to the kitchen.
He took a disposable plastic cup and poured himself a cup of tea.
This is autumn tea that my second aunt made herself. As soon as it was brewed, the fragrance of the tea rose with the steam and lingered around my nose.
He took a small sip, and as soon as the tea touched his tongue, a bitter taste spread out first, followed by wisps of sweetness that filled his mouth.
My second aunt's tea-frying skills are quite good; at least it has a sweet aftertaste.
Yu Huan carried her cup to the gate, looked up and gazed into the distance. Several birds were flying across the sky, and the white clouds were noticeably thinner, revealing the faint outline of the sun.
He just stared into the distance, his mind wandering for a moment.
Suddenly, he heard Yu Songnian call out "Brother Huan" from behind, and that's when he came to his senses.
Yu Huan took a sip of the now lukewarm tea, turned her head, and asked Yu Songnian with a smile, "Songnian, is your brother-in-law still at home?"
Holding a stack of Want Want rice crackers, Yu Songnian chuckled and replied, "My brother-in-law went to Xingcheng yesterday. Qianqian told me last night that she went to her aunt's house today, but I don't know if she went or not."
"Alright, let's go to my place first."
Yu Huan tilted her head back slightly, flicked her wrist, and brought the rim of the cup to her lips, the tea sliding down her throat.
His Adam's apple bobbed up and down, accompanied by a satisfying "gulp," a warm feeling spreading through his chest and abdomen, as if melting within him, giving him a very pleasant sensation. Then, he casually tossed the empty plastic cup aside on the steps.
Suddenly, Yu Songnian asked a question from the side.
"Hey Huan, wanna get a pack?"
Yu Songnian was chewing loudly, his cheeks bulging.
As he spoke, he handed a bag of Want Want rice crackers to Yu Huan.
"One bag, please." Yu Huan nodded, chuckled, and casually took the snow cake.
He deftly tore open the packaging, took a big bite of the rice cracker, and crunched it in his mouth.
Yu Songnian followed closely behind Yu Huan, striding towards the BMW.
He swallowed the Want Want rice cracker in his mouth, his face full of curiosity, and couldn't help but ask, "Is Sister You Rong recording 'I Am a Singer' at the Broadcasting Center?"
“Yes.” Yu Huan replied simply, nodding at the same time.
"Hey, is Sister You Rong on tomorrow's episode of 'I Am a Singer'? What song is she singing?" Yu Songnian said, stopping on the passenger side, his eyes sparkling with anticipation as he waited for the answer.
Yu Huan walked around the front of the car and headed towards the driver's seat.
His expression was serious, but he replied with a hint of joking, "Yes, she is, but I can't reveal what songs she sings. As a family member, I have to strictly abide by the confidentiality agreement."
Yu Songnian scoffed, reached out and opened the car door, then plopped down in the passenger seat.
He fastened his seatbelt and muttered, "Brother Huan, you're really good at keeping people in suspense."
Yu Huan quickly finished the Want Want rice cracker in his hand, laughed, and then reached out to turn the car key.
As the engine started with a "hum," he said, "I'm singing 'Time Thief.' As for the confidentiality agreement, it really exists, but don't go spreading rumors outside."
"Wow! Thank you for your trust, Brother Huan, in telling me such an important secret!" Yu Songnian said with a grin, and then reached out to turn on the car stereo.
In an instant, the melodious piano prelude of "The Wind Rises" flowed into the car, lingering in the ears of the two.
Yu Songnian leaned back comfortably in his seat and reached out to lower the car window.
He opened another bag of Want Want rice crackers and slowly began to nibble on them, the crunching sound ringing out once more.
Amidst that crisp voice, he leisurely began to say, "Sister You Rong's song is truly beautiful. In my heart, it holds a place comparable to 'Time Thief.' I've looked at the lyricist and composer, and that Mr. Y is truly amazing, far more talented than that Vincent Fang. He can write lyrics and compose music."
"Right?" Yu Huan slowly turned the steering wheel to the left, driving the car onto the main road, and echoed, "This Mr. Y is indeed quite impressive."
"Yes." Yu Songnian nodded vigorously, deeply agreeing.
Yu Huan smiled faintly as she leisurely drove her BMW past her uncle's house.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that his uncle's front door was tightly closed, and he couldn't help but ask, "Are they still at home, Uncle?"
Yu Songnian turned his head to look out the window, licked the remaining crumbs of rice cracker from the corner of his mouth, and replied, "I don't know, maybe they went to visit relatives."
"Oh." Yu Huan nodded slightly, her gaze fixed intently on the road ahead.
In the distance, a familiar figure came into view, standing in front of the door.
Look at his posture, leaning slightly forward, with one hand frequently raised to his mouth. You don't even need to get close; just by looking at the posture, you can tell he's smoking.
Despite being far apart, Yu Huan recognized the old man at a glance.
The old man held his fishing bag firmly with his other hand, and waited quietly.
"Haha, the old man is waiting for you at the door right on time. He's got all his fishing gear ready, just waiting to go fishing with him." Yu Songnian also noticed this, narrowed his eyes slightly, and said with a smile.
“Uh…” Yu Huan couldn’t help but fall into a brief silence.
I had planned to sit inside and chat with my parents after I got home, but I didn't expect my father to be in such a hurry.
It's been less than twenty minutes since we set off, and the old man has already got everything ready.
As the BMW approached, the old man's sprightly face became increasingly clear.
Yu Huan pressed the accelerator firmly and turned to Yu Songnian, instructing, "Songnian, go and help the old man put away his fishing gear bag."
"Okay." Yu Songnian gripped the rice cracker packaging tightly with one hand, and quickly unbuckled his seatbelt with the other, then pushed open the car door.
As he got out of the car, he asked, "Brother Huan, will it be okay to put it in the trunk?"
Yu Huan glanced at the old man who was slowly walking towards the roadside.
Her gaze fell on the fishing gear bag in his hand, and after examining it for a while, she said, "There shouldn't be any problem. There's not much in the trunk, just be careful with the bouquet of flowers, don't let me crush it."
"Okay!" Yu Songnian replied, quickly turning around to greet the old man.
When Grandpa Yu saw Yu Songnian come out to greet him, his face immediately lit up with a smile, and he said kindly, "Songnian, did you just come back from the city too?"
"I just woke up at home." Yu Songnian casually threw the trash into the roadside bin, then asked, "Grandpa, do you have my fishing rod?"
Grandpa Yu nodded in affirmation, then smiled and said, "Oh, I thought you went to the city."
"No... I'll put your fishing gear in the trunk for you."
"it is good."
The grandfather and grandson completed the handover.
Grandpa Yu walked to the wide-open passenger seat, bent down, and sat down.
Yu Huan turned to look at the old man who had sat down leisurely and said half-jokingly, "Grandpa, you're too impatient. I just arrived, and you've already packed your fishing gear."
As he fastened his seatbelt, the old man smiled so broadly his eyes narrowed into slits: "Of course! The weather's so nice today, and my grandson rarely has any free time. He even said he wanted to take me fishing. How could I not be eager!"
At that moment, the car body shuddered slightly, and a muffled thud came from the rear.
It must have been Yu Songnian who closed the trunk.
Hearing the old man's words about "rare leisure time," Yu Huan couldn't help but smile and said, "Rongrong is going to Yanjing for the Lantern Festival, and I think I'll go with her for a bit."
"Oh?" The old man pondered for a moment, then said, "Then you should still go and see your great-aunt."
Yu Huan mentioned this with the same intention in mind; he felt he had to visit his grandmother's younger sister.
He nodded slightly and replied, "Of course, now that we're in Yanjing, how could I not visit my great-aunt? I haven't seen her for so many years." (End of Chapter)
