Chapter 110 Departmental Meetings
Chapter 110 Departmental Meetings
During the first week of school, everyone was still a bit out of sorts, but that's how the new semester really started.
After a busy day, it's time for the department's regular meeting in the evening.
Last semester, Jiang Lai and her classmates had evening self-study sessions. This semester, I don't know if it's because there are more classes during the day, but there are no more evening self-study sessions. So, this time is free, and it's fine to have meetings.
Jiang Lai and Tang Li walked out of the dormitory together.
"What a hassle. I'm quitting the Discipline Inspection Department after this semester. I haven't skipped any classes in over a year, and now I have to catch other people. It's so frustrating," Tang Li grumbled.
"Are you sure you don't want to run for Minister of the Discipline Inspection Department?" Jiang Lai asked.
"No way." Tang Li shook her head like a rattle drum. "I'm not an ambitious person. I'm fine with being a lazy bum, having fun is fine too. I can't handle being in charge. There are weekly meetings every Tuesday, that's going to kill me."
"It's alright! But it seems like the Discipline Inspection Department isn't very impressive to put on a resume?" Jiang Lai thought for a moment and said.
"Right?!" Tang Li wholeheartedly agreed. "Am I supposed to write on my resume that I'm good at tattling?"
"Hahaha, there's absolutely no need for that!"
The two chatted and laughed as they walked towards the student activity center.
"It'll be over soon, just wait for me downstairs!" Tang Li instructed.
"OK, OK!" Jiang Lai waved to her.
......
The office belonging to the Literature and Art Department was already full of members. Jiang Lai arrived a little late, and she went straight in, saying, "Why are you all here so quickly!"
"I've been waiting for you since early!" a girl who got along well with Jiang Lai said with a smile.
"It's an honor," Jiang Lai said with a smile, placing the things she was carrying on the table. "Has the minister not arrived yet?"
"You must have gone out on business with the deputy minister! What's this?" someone asked.
"I brought back some local specialties and snacks for the Chinese New Year, and I'm sharing them with everyone."
"That's wonderful! Thank you, our arts and literature department's goddess!"
"We're in for a treat!"
Without waiting for the minister and his group, they immediately started unpacking and eating, laughing and joking all the while.
"I could hear how lively it was from afar." The Minister and Deputy Minister of the Arts and Literature Department entered.
"Is Director Hu trying to say that we're the noisiest people in the whole building? Hahahaha!"
"You never know!" the deputy minister said.
The head of the Arts and Literature Department is surnamed Hu, a female, and a junior. The vice head is surnamed Zhang, a male, and also a junior.
"No, come and eat with us! It's a local specialty that Ah Jiang brought, and it tastes really good!" The members called out to the two ministers to join them.
The two ministers didn't stand on ceremony and sat down directly.
“Then let’s talk while we eat!” Hu said. “Yesterday, the student union held a regular meeting, mainly about the election. Today, we’re having our department meeting, and we also want to talk to you about the election.”
A boy raised his hand: "Excuse me! Do people who don't want to participate in the election still have to attend the meeting?"
Hu Bu rolled his eyes at him: "You still have to stay here!"
"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"
Hu ignored the person making a fool of himself and continued, "Old Zhang and I will definitely retire at the end of this semester. After that, we need to select new ministers and vice ministers from among you. It depends on who is willing."
The members looked at each other.
"Because freshmen are not very familiar with the affairs of other departments in our Crane, we basically select from sophomores. Their term is one year, and they step down after the junior year. This year will definitely be the same. Do you have any ideas? Next semester, we will select members of the executive committee from among the department heads. How should I put it? If you want to develop your abilities, you can give it a try."
After the minister finished speaking, the deputy minister said, "You don't need to be shy, just speak up. Or is there anyone you'd like to recommend?"
The minister took a pastry from the box. "What about you, Ah Jiang?"
There was a reason why Hu asked Jiang Lai. She was well-liked in the department, and she always completed the tasks assigned to her quickly and well. Moreover, she was pretty enough that pretty people always received preferential treatment when dealing with other departments.
Upon hearing this, everyone chimed in: "If Jiang Lai has any ideas, then let's just let her be the one. She's the face of our arts and literature department!"
"Agreed!" "+1!"
Jiang Lai looked at the encouraging looks from those around her, smiled, and said, "I had originally considered running for office."
After saying that, she winked at everyone and said, "Anyone who wants to run for office, come on! Don't give me the opportunity for nothing."
"Definitely!" "If A-Jiang were to become the minister, I would accept it."
Both Hu and Zhang nodded in satisfaction. "You're the one we have the highest hopes for."
Jiang Lai is proactive in her work and has strong coordination and organizational skills, making her the perfect candidate for minister.
"How biased! It's decided so quickly?" Someone deliberately came out to cause trouble.
Hu glared at him, "It's not like we're preventing other people from running for office!"
"If the minister is Ah Jiang's, then I want to be the vice minister! And I want to be surrounded by beautiful women!"
"No, you girls, stop being so lovey-dovey! Give us single guys a chance!"
"Get lost, you stinky man!"
The boy made a hurt expression, and everyone laughed.
The atmosphere in the office was pleasant. Minister Hu continued, "If any of you want to run for office, send me your resume and remember to come for the defense next week. That's the main topic tonight. Other matters, such as the school anniversary celebration, will be discussed in detail after the next ministers and vice ministers are elected."
"Understood!" everyone said.
"Let's have another department dinner after the new minister is elected!" Director Zhang said. "This will be the last time Director Hu and I get together with everyone. Although we will still hold this title this semester, we will no longer be in charge after the new minister is elected. We will be going out for internships this semester and there will be a lot of things to do. The new minister will basically be in charge of the department."
That's a rather sentimental statement.
"Then we must give Commander Hu and Commander Zhang a good beating when the time comes!"
Someone cleverly interrupted, and the atmosphere immediately became lively again.
Minister Hu said, "If the two ministers split it, it won't be a huge loss, as long as you don't order the Manchu Han Imperial Feast."
Everyone chatted for a while longer before the meeting adjourned.
When Jiang Lai walked out of the activity center, Tang Li was already waiting outside. Upon seeing her come out, she immediately came to greet her.
"Your department is so slow!"
"Everyone chatted for a while."
"I thought you were having a leadership election right away!"
"No, that's not it. What about next week?"
"It's next week too, but the candidates will basically be decided at this meeting. Next week is just a formality, because not many people want to be there; those who are interested will be chosen directly." Tang Li took Jiang Lai's arm. "Let's go back quickly! It's so cold!"
"Uh-huh."
