Chapter 241: Sam Vs The Soul Eater!?
Chapter 241: Sam Vs The Soul Eater!?
Sam’s entire body language underwent a noticeable change, and Sanders was beginning to grasp the possibility that everything they had been told might not be entirely accurate. As Sam observed the zombie, it became evident that this wasn’t his first encounter with such a creature. However, Sanders noticed that the zombie seemed to be solely focused on him. It didn’t even acknowledge Sam’s presence, which allowed Sanders to function more effectively as a support.
"Do not open fire," Sam instructed Sanders, a request that seemed peculiar but one he knew he had to comply with.
The zombie charged towards Sam, but rather than engaging it head-on, Sam chose an alternate route. He sprinted towards the East with all his might.
Surprisingly, the zombie proved to be quite fast despite its size, but Sam was even faster. Despite his disheveled appearance, it was clear that Sam hadn’t neglected his physical abilities. He understood the impending danger and had made sufficient preparations to ensure his victory.
It would be foolish to assume that he could emerge from this unscathed. There was no way that would happen when facing a creature capable of withstanding even grenades due to its unnaturally massive body mass. Sam remained calm and composed.
The zombie took the bait, but Sanders, who was bleeding, was astonished that the creature showed no interest in pursuing him despite his wounds.
The zombie was supposed to respond to blood, even the peculiar zombies they had encountered previously exhibited such a response.
The zombie closed in on Sam, but this was part of Sam’s plan. It attempted to grab him from behind, but Sam kicked the creature’s palm, propelling himself forward before it could close its grip. This maneuver took him out of the grab’s range while allowing him to gauge the potential force the zombie could generate with one of its numerous limbs.
Sam skidded to a halt, no longer interested in fleeing as they had arrived at his intended destination.
"Well then... Shall we?" Sam smirked, and the zombie let out a resounding howl. Undeterred, Sam closed the distance he had just gained.
The zombie tried to smash him into the ground by bringing its joined hands down from above, but Sam stood his ground. With a swift roll to the side, Sam evaded the attack before stepping on the hands that narrowly missed him, using them as a platform to propel himself skyward.
Sam managed to leap over the zombie and attempted to sever its main head, but a forceful blow struck his torso, sending him hurtling through the air.
The zombie possessed multiple limbs, making it challenging for Sam to keep track of them all. While the blow lacked the same power as the zombie’s previous attack, it was undeniably faster. "Different limbs, different advantages," Sam mentally noted, realizing that the zombie may have evolved to overcome its weaknesses.
A smirk curved Sam’s lips, this was worth the wait. He hadn’t waited because he wanted to, but because he desired to understand how these zombies had evolved. Sam didn’t believe that the dead were capable of evolving, but the current situation proved otherwise.
They possessed the same potential as human beings. Sam was determined to do whatever it took to win, but he noticed Sanders approaching from the corner of his eye.
However, there was something that Sam hadn’t predicted. The "souls" trapped within the zombie weren’t just for show; they served a purpose. Sam observed as one of the trapped heads emerged, causing a noticeable change in the zombie’s body language as if it was no longer some mindless killing drone but a creature capable of actual thought
"Oh? You still have more to show me?" Sam inquired, assuming a battle-ready stance. Surprisingly, the zombie mimicked his every move and this only made Sam confirm that this zombie could not only see him but it had the ability to learn.
Sam deduced that it had something to do with that head that had taken form.
This piqued Sam’s curiosity and explained why the zombie was capable of evolving. Sam charged at the zombie, and it did the same, flawlessly imitating his every action. The military were trained killers, with bodies that could perform feats beyond the average person’s imagination. Muscle memory was one thing they could rely on.
As the zombie charged towards him, Sam noticed it appeared thinner than it had a moment ago. The only reason it could mimic his movements was because it had assimilated someone who possessed such agility.
"What?" Sanders thought to himself. Sam’s decision to charge at the zombie with just a dagger showcased his true insanity.
Sam aimed a stab at the zombie, but inexplicably, it defended itself, even though the attack wasn’t fatal for the undead. Sam chuckled as the zombie halted his attack by grabbing the wrist holding the knife. But it didn’t stop there.
The advantage was on the zombie’s side, possessing multiple limbs. However, Sam displayed his dexterity, dropping the knife from his hand and seizing it with the other, successfully severing the fingers that held onto him.
The momentum of the attack managed to sever the hand attempting to grab Sam, but he realized that if the zombie could not only trap souls, but also utilize their skills prior to death, then all he needed to do was kill the head of the person whose abilities it displayed.
Sam understood the seriousness of the situation, but his constant grin couldn’t hide the enjoyment he found in it. He attempted an uppercut, and once again, the zombie evaded it as if it would suffer damage upon impact.
This revelation indicated to Sam that the zombie lacked independent thought. All its thinking was done by the people it had killed and assimilated, meaning it had no individuality. He was essentially fighting a soldier, and this was how a soldier would respond in such a situation. With this realization, Sam discovered its weakness, but would it give him the upper hand?
