Chapter 58 The storm arises
On the other side, after leaving his home, Ada went straight to the village chief's house.
There's an unwritten rule in Zhelong Village that no outsider is allowed to be taken in without permission.
Even someone like Cheng Feng, who thinks there's no problem, still has to report to the chieftain, otherwise he'll be punished.
Upon arriving at the village chief's house, Ada told the chief about Cheng Feng and his two companions' situation and their request for lodging.
The chieftain was quite old, but he was still very robust, and his eyes exuded an air of authority.
"Since they are tourists, it's fine to let them stay one night. If they want to stay again tomorrow, then come and let me know."
After a moment's thought, the old clan chief gave instructions to Ada.
Ada agreed and then took his leave from the chieftain's house.
When Ada returned home, he was carrying mushrooms and pheasants in one hand and borrowed bedding in the other.
Cheng Feng came out and took the bedding from Ada's hands, thanking Ada again.
After handing the bedding to Huo Ling and Chen Wenjin, Cheng Feng went downstairs and asked Ada where to get water to wash up.
The three of them quickly washed their faces and then sat down on the first floor to warm themselves by the fire.
Ada then struck up a conversation with Cheng Feng, saying, "Where did you lose your luggage? I can help you look for it."
The two women's gazes sharpened; they had already guessed that this question would come.
Cheng Feng sighed, looking slightly dejected.
"To be honest, we were really unlucky. The car we were in broke down halfway there, so we had to get out."
We encountered another landslide on the way, and our luggage was buried by the mudslide while we were running.
After hearing this, Ada comforted him, saying, "It's good that you're alright. Nothing is more important than life."
Ada then asked about the capital city, as he knew it was the capital and couldn't help but be curious.
Cheng Feng picked out some of Beijing's specialties to tell Ada, such as Donglaishun, Nanluoguxiang, and Zhengyangmen.
While everyone was chatting, the light rain outside stopped, and although the sky was still overcast, it was clear that it would soon clear up.
"Ada, can we take a walk around the village?"
Chen Wenjin wanted to gather intelligence, so he suggested going out to take a look.
After thinking for a moment, Ada said, "It's okay to look around, but don't just go into other people's houses, and it's best not to go too far."
"Don't worry, we'll just walk around the area."
The two women then left with Cheng Feng.
Walking through Zhelong Village, Cheng Feng and his two companions looked around at the scenery like true tourists.
Occasionally, when there's a particularly beautiful view, we'll stop and linger for a while.
In fact, the three of them had been observing Zhelong Mountain behind Zhelong Village.
"The cliffs of Zhelong Mountain are so steep that it's practically impossible to climb over them."
After careful examination, Chen Wenjin said with certainty.
As Chen Wenjin said, the side of Zhelong Mountain closest to the village can be described as being carved by a knife and axe.
The mountain walls are extremely steep, and even with professional mountaineering equipment, it would be difficult to climb.
"Don't worry, I already said that God will guide me. We'll set off tonight."
"Are you such a prophet? You can foresee everything I want to do. I'd believe you if you said you were God's favorite son."
Huo Ling patted Cheng Feng on the shoulder, suddenly feeling a little envious of him.
As the three were chatting, two young men walked towards them. They looked to be about the same age as Ada.
They were all very strong young men.
Because of their clothing, it was obvious at a glance that the three were not locals, and the two men stopped Cheng Feng and his companions as they approached.
"Who are you people, and why are you in our village?"
"We came here as tourists, but we lost our luggage on the way, so we're staying in the village for one night and will leave tomorrow."
Cheng Feng walked up to the two women and responded.
The two men muttered a few words in their dialect, their eyes occasionally glancing at the two women behind Cheng Feng.
Unfortunately, Cheng Feng couldn't understand their dialect, nor did he know what they were muttering.
"Whose house are you staying at?"
One of them asked again in broken Mandarin.
Cheng Feng told them that they were staying at Ada's house temporarily.
Cheng Feng didn't want to cause trouble unless absolutely necessary.
Upon hearing Ada's name, the two stopped troubling Cheng Feng and his companions and left quickly.
After they left, Chen Wenjin frowned and said, "I feel that this village is a bit too xenophobic."
"Whatever, we're leaving tonight anyway."
Huo Ling said something casually, and then pulled Chen Wenjin along to continue their stroll.
In the evening, Ada stewed pheasant with locally grown mushrooms, and the aroma was so enticing that it made one's mouth water.
Yunnan's mushrooms are exceptional, but many people have also been poisoned by their delicious taste.
But as a local, Ada naturally wouldn't serve poisonous mushrooms to her guests.
When Cheng Feng and the other two returned, Ada's sister also came back from outside.
After introducing themselves to each other, the group quickly became acquainted.
Ada's younger sister is named Kongque, and she speaks Mandarin much better than Ada.
She's quite talkative and a naive and innocent young girl.
Soon after, the pheasant stew with mushrooms was served, and Cheng Feng and the others praised the delicious dish.
Although there are very few seasonings, the ingredients themselves are delicious enough.
On the other side of the village, five young men were drinking together, including the two who had questioned Cheng Feng.
After a few drinks, the group started talking more.
"Young clan leader, have you heard that three people have come to our village seeking lodging today?"
The man known as the young clan leader looked about the same age as the others; they had played together since childhood.
The old clan chief was pleased with this outcome and hoped his son would have enough helpers around him.
That way, when he gets old and has to step down from his position as clan leader, his son will face less resistance in taking over.
“I heard about it. Ada told my father before. It’s said to be a man and two women.”
The young clan leader, holding his wine cup, spoke casually.
"Young clan leader, those two girls are really beautiful. I think they are more beautiful than blooming camellias."
As he spoke, the young man's eyes lit up.
Men's drinking parties always revolve around women, especially since these are young men who are looking for wives.
Is she really that beautiful? Who's more beautiful, her or a peacock?
"It's much prettier than a peacock. Its skin is so white it reflects light, and its eyes seem to be able to speak."
"You've described her as a celestial being. I think you're just mesmerized and think she looks beautiful no matter what."
“I think so too. We’ve seen plenty of women from other places, but none of them are as exaggerated as you’re making them out to be.”
…………
The group drank and discussed animatedly, which piqued the young clan leader's curiosity.
After drinking several more bowls of rice wine, a young man slammed down his cup and said:
"If you don't believe me, go and see for yourself tomorrow, then you'll know whether I'm bragging or not."
"They're leaving tomorrow, where will we go to see them?"
Hearing this, the young clan leader, emboldened by the alcohol, slammed his hand on the table and said:
"Let's go take a look now, what do you all think?"
"Alright, we'll listen to the young clan leader."
"Let's go, let's go to Ada's house."
