Chapter 96 The Shame of Being Ranked Last in the Academy
"Your prejudice... will get you killed someday."
When Irina heard these words, she couldn't help but sneer inwardly.
'Ha, you're nothing but a piece of trash, a complete bastard.'
Last time, after they completed their exploration of the maze, Irina realized that she was lacking in team management.
Morse showed her the gap between the two, demonstrating that she was not suited to be a leader.
Although she knew she was the strongest in the team, sometimes, being strong isn't everything.
When she realized this, she felt a slight respect for him, thinking that he at least deserved to be in this team.
Despite Morse being annoying and unconventional, I began to appreciate his unique talents.
However, all these ideas crumbled when she entered the school's forum. She developed a habit of checking the Arcadia Campus Forum website every day, because it was the best place to communicate with upperclassmen and learn about school information.
Copybooks, study materials, clubs, assignments...
Even for a genius mage like her, born into a prestigious family, life at the academy was full of challenges.
Thanks to Julia and Alice's advice, she started using the website. However, while browsing the site, she suddenly encountered something unexpected.
The Shame of Being Last in the College
This is the title of the post. Normally, she would never read such boring articles, but for some reason, the phrase "last place" caught her attention.
'It's probably because of that guy.'
Her guess was correct.
As she began to read the article, her eyes widened, for it revealed many photos of him, the places he had been, and the people he had spoken to.
Even his bank account information was leaked, revealing a large amount of money from unknown sources.
However, that's not all.
The post even included testimonies from three girls.
He forced me to date him.
He once seduced me and raped me.
He threatened me to do things I didn't like, and said he could kill me anytime if I didn't comply.
All three articles that disgusted her were listed in the post.
After reading the post, she began to compare his past attitude with the current situation.
'I see……'
She realized this after seeing the victims' identities. They were all ordinary citizens, with no connection to the hunter profession.
'The reason he acts coldly towards me is because he knows he can't bring himself to harm me.'
As she recalled his attitude, she looked at the girls in the post. They were just teenagers, and now they were in tears, looking haggard.
She was overcome with anger as she watched their futures crumble. One of them had dropped out of school, while the others became depressed and locked themselves in their rooms.
'You piece of trash, you bastard.'
Finally, she vowed to make this guy pay.
Although the article said he got in through connections, she knew that getting into this college was not easy.
Even so, instead of training to improve his skills, this guy acted recklessly, making a mess of their lives. Countless people wanted to enter this academy and put in tremendous effort... but this guy did nothing, wasting his time on this kind of thing.
That's why she didn't want to talk to him at first. No, it should be said that's why she kept staring at him.
Because she knew that if she hadn't come from a powerful family, she too would have become a victim.
But now, a different thing is standing in front of her.
She used to think that the guy who liked to misbehave and didn't train hard was now standing in front of the Lava Dragon Lizard.
She saw that in that single second, the man fired two arrows in quick succession; the first pierced the wound, and the second detonated from the inside.
"what?"
"How...how is this possible?"
Erica and Leon stood there, dumbfounded, staring at the monster's corpse lying on the ground. Both knew that as the worst student in the academy, it was impossible for them to hit the monster, let alone kill it.
Byron was the first to voice his opinion. “Morse… what did you just do?” His tone was a mixture of awe and resentment. “If you could do it, why didn’t you do it in the first place?”
Morse was used to such questioning and was not surprised at all.
He glanced at Byron and casually remarked, "Nobody asked."
This sounded more like a sarcastic remark, and Byron clearly wasn't going to let him off the hook.
Are you mocking me?
He angrily approached Morse, ready to grab him by the collar.
However, Morse easily dodged it with a fluid movement.
“Keep your hands to yourself.” His purple eyes stared at him coldly, and most importantly, those eyes looked down on him.
Byron's anger intensified as he realized that Morse didn't take him seriously at all, which made him even angrier.
He was the weakest student in the academy, yet he dared to look down on him.
Just as the atmosphere was getting more and more intense, Irina intervened, her voice firm and authoritative.
“Byron, stop. There’s no need for this. We still have a mission to complete.” Her gaze shifted to Morse, whose eyes were cold and contemptuous. “You just used an explosive arrow, didn’t you?”
"Correct."
"I won't ask you why you didn't tell us about these arrows."
"You already know the answer, that's good."
"Tsk... I really want to smash your face right now."
"What's stopping you?"
"I'm different from you; I care a lot about my grades."
"So, if your grades weren't affected, would you have attacked me here?"
"Yes."
“Understood.” After saying this, Morse simply nodded, as if to indicate that this was exactly the reaction Irina should have.
Seeing him looking at her like that, Irina's anger finally erupted. She couldn't help but ask:
"Don't you treat others the same way?"
"I treat others the same way? What do you mean?"
However, his completely innocent expression...
"you!"
This made her even angrier. To him, those actions seemed perfectly normal, as if he hadn't done anything wrong at all.
"Tsk...you bastard."
After saying that, she turned around and started to leave.
Now that the Lava Dragon Lizards have been defeated, the internal structure of the dungeon will change after they leave, and Irina just wants to complete the mission as soon as possible.
She didn't want to look at his face again.
And so the group continued onward, with everyone occasionally glancing at Morse and Irina.
......
"I think this is the right path."
"Right? This path is super easy. I knew Mason was right."
On the other side of the tunnel, the eight people walked and talked. The tunnel was somewhat dark, but not so dark that they couldn't see anything at all.
"But when can we leave here? It's been dark for quite a while now."
One of them asked, his gaze fixed ahead. A girl with short white hair led the way, a smile on her face.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be there soon.” She turned around, her blue eyes gleaming in the darkness.
"Understood... So we'll listen to you?" he asked, seemingly seeking confirmation. Since someone was leading the team, everyone naturally assumed she was the captain.
“I don’t like giving orders. Can’t we just crush our way through?” However, the answer they received was not what they expected. “Sylvie can heal us while we fight; isn’t that how warriors fight?”
"Hmm... As expected of the Middleton family. Miss Julia has the bearing of a warrior." He smiled awkwardly, responding to an answer he hadn't expected.
"I...I will do my best." Sylvie said uncomfortably, her voice trembling.
During her previous explorations, she gradually became familiar with her teammates, but she was still afraid of monsters and battles.
“I will protect you, don’t worry,” Mason said in a relaxed tone, his green eyes shining.
"Th...thank you." This was someone Sylvie knew before; they were from the same club.
They were grouped together for this expedition, with Mason assigned to the role of rear-guard support.
However, she still felt uneasy about the others, especially in the dungeon; her fear lingered. Before, she had simply been doing her own healing work and supporting Julia from behind, but this time, she sensed that the monsters were stronger and looked more dangerous.
“We’re almost there. I can sense a powerful presence,” Julia said. Just as she finished speaking, everyone suddenly heard a long roar coming from inside the tunnel.
"Awooo—!"
That was the sound of a wolf.
Whoosh!
In that instant, something suddenly emerged from the darkness and locked onto the team members.
"Be careful."
call!
Sylvie felt a strong gust of wind hit her face, and instinctively ducked, thinking someone was about to pounce on her. She staggered, taking a small step forward, before feeling a strong hand grab her arm and steady her.
"Phew, are you alright?" Mason's voice came from behind her, sounding a little nervous.
Sylvie looked up in alarm and saw Mason suddenly come close to her. She misunderstood the situation and thought he was going to pounce on her.
"Um, I...I'm fine," she stammered, turning her head away. "You're...you're too close." She pushed Mason away, and Mason immediately understood and moved away.
"Feel sorry……"
She noticed an arrow stuck where she had just been standing. Her eyes widened as she realized what had happened.
“It was a trap…” she said, her voice trailing off as she realized the danger they were facing.
Mason followed her gaze and saw the arrow. "Yes, we were almost hit."
Sylvie breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, I thought..."
Mason chuckled, trying to ease the tension. "You thought I was going to pounce on you?"
Sylvie's face flushed instantly. "No...no! I mean...but that's not it! I just..."
Mason smiled and gently patted her shoulder. "It's alright, Sylvie. We need to stay alert. Looks like there's trouble ahead."
Sylvie nodded, feeling a sense of relief; her fear subsided slightly.
She could sense the 'pure' emotion in him, and that he had no motives for hiding anything, which made her happy, and she felt she could relax a little now.
However, she didn't know that when she turned to look ahead, Mason revealed a smug smile.
'It seems this trick works quite well.'
He was able to help Sylvie in time because these traps were set by his accomplices in order to gain Sylvie's trust.
