Chapter 398 Return
Chapter 398 Return
"Ms. Irene...she is a devil. She is reaping the pain and souls of our family." Neville said.
"What evidence do you have to prove that Ms. Irene did all this?" Howard asked.
"Why do you say that?" Neville asked puzzled.
"My intuition tells me it might not be that simple," Howard said. "I do have a guess about this. Do you want to hear it?"
Neville: "You say."
Howard: "Is it possible that none of this has anything to do with Ms. Irene?"
"what do you mean?"
"Those terrible things that happened after the dedication ceremony you mentioned, maybe they had nothing to do with Ms. Irene?" Howard said. "It's an old cliché. Everyone thinks it's the devil, but in the end, they find out there's no devil, it's just the evil of human nature."
"What about what you saw with your own eyes, Isabella and Todd? Could it be that they were also evil in their hearts?"
Howard: "It's hard to say, but at the moment, neither your guess nor my idea has any concrete evidence to support it."
In fact, what Howard said was somewhat based on his experience. That is, Freya might not look down on the few souls in the Gunther family.
When the planet Nat was destroyed, the great demon casually gave him the soul of a planet.
Perhaps the average quality of the Gunther family's souls is higher, but there are tens of billions of souls on Planet Nat, and there must be some that can interest the devil, but Freya still gave up these souls lightly.
So what was Freya's purpose in doing this in this family?
Both sides fell into silence, and Howard continued to stir the ice in the glass until it was completely melted.
Then Howard suddenly thought of something wrong and asked:
"Master Neville, judging from your performance, you don't seem to be someone who likes to attend family banquets. Alexandra was also a little surprised by your appearance, so why did you appear at the banquet today?"
Neville answered very bluntly:
"My father asked me to come. He said he had something to tell me, but I didn't see him when I got here."
Howard nodded, and then he said to Neville:
"You probably can't go back to your home. You should have died at the hands of your brother." Howard patted Neville on the shoulder and said, "Now just consider yourself dead there. Forget your past identity, leave here, and live somewhere else. I know this is difficult for a noble young master like you, but perhaps this will be your best choice."
"I left, what about you?" Neville asked back: "I involved you."
Howard was a little surprised: "You didn't care about me in this regard when you first got me involved. Besides, how can you help me if you don't leave?"
"At that time, I thought you were some evil and cruel demon servant... But now I realize you're not... I guess you're just like us. For reasons beyond your control, you signed a contract with Ms. Irene and were forced to serve her."
Howard was stumped by the question, so he could only answer a less important question: "Don't worry about me, just think about yourself."
So Neville replied: "Then please forgive me for not accepting your advice. I want to go back."
Howard wasn't surprised by this, but he still asked, "You should know in your heart that leaving here might be the best outcome for you. Do you really have to get hurt?"
"The ending should be experienced by yourself instead of being told by others." Neville said with a firm look in his eyes: "I don't like my family, but they are still my relatives. We have the same blood. I can't abandon them."
"Now the Space Marines are here. If the devil is behind all this, then kill the devil and let my family's crimes be brought to justice. If it is human nature, then find the culprit." Neville looked at Howard again.
"Mr. Howard, the same goes for you. You shouldn't give in to the devil. You should stand up and fight back."
After saying that, Neville bowed to Howard as a farewell and ran out of the tavern.
Howard didn't chase after him. He continued to sit and stir his drink until the ice in the glass melted.
Then the bartender pushed a small plate of salt-roasted almonds in front of him.
"No, thank you, I don't have the money to pay." Howard subconsciously wanted to refuse.
But the bartender's voice instantly perked him up:
"This one is for you."
This voice is Freya's voice.
Howard raised his head suddenly, and the bartender in front of him still looked like a bartender, but his eyes had turned purple.
"Do you think I've abandoned you?" Freya smiled and put her face close to Howard.
"You were being watched before, but now you've escaped. I'll be here to pick you up soon." Freya put her hands on the table and tilted her head slightly to look at Howard. "Do you want to come back with me?"
"Wait until I'm done," Howard replied. He drank the glass of ice water that Neville had offered him bit by bit. During this time, Freya controlled the bartender's body and skillfully mixed a martini and handed it to a customer who had been waiting. Then Howard put the empty glass back on the bar and said, "I'll go back with you."
So Freya took Howard's hand and led him to an empty storage room. There was a huge mirror among the piles of miscellaneous items. The mirror reflected Freya's original appearance, not the bartender.
The bartender didn't move, but Freya in the mirror reached out her hand and pressed it against the mirror. The glass surface began to surge like a lake, and what was finally reflected in the mirror was not the broom room of the tavern, but the view of Flockfanger.
Freya made an inviting gesture to Howard. After a slight hesitation, Howard stepped into the mirror. When he looked back at the way he came, the opened portal was slowly closing. He saw the bartender fell in the utility room, but he quickly stood up again, with a hazy look on his face as if he had just woken up from a dream.
Freya: "I told you I won't burden you with more. Just help me do a small thing."
Howard: "Although it's an unreasonable request, I still want to know what happened to them."
"I thought you wouldn't care," Freya said.
Howard: "I don't care, but it doesn't conflict with my curiosity about their ending."
Just like when Howard asked about the nun's fate, Freya snapped her fingers as usual, and Howard was able to know the fate of the family without his interference.
Neville returned to his family. Perhaps the experience of coming back from the dead made him more mature. He learned to control his emotions and thoughts, and he learned to use others, including the Space Marines in charge of the investigation.
Under his operation, the Gunther family was gradually liquidated and was on the verge of collapse. At a family banquet, Alexandra killed her father in the name of revenge. Even earlier, he had poisoned the wine at the banquet. Finally, among the corpses on the ground, Neville and Alexandra confronted each other.
Eventually Alexandra jumped from the window and his body was impaled on the statue of the Virgin Mary on the church spire.
A thousand years ago, the first Gunther should have died under the icon, but escaped the fate of death; a thousand years later, the last Gunther was pierced by the icon, and the family was completely wiped out with the death of Alexandra, and all the sins and secrets in between were never mentioned again.
Neville finally escaped, changed his identity, and started a new life in the Middle Nest. This time, he and his descendants would not be entangled by the devil.
Neville once made a wish to Howard: if it is a devil, then kill the devil; if it is the evil in the human heart, then find out the culprit.
But what if his entire family is guilty?
But when Neville discovered this, there was no turning back for him. Perhaps he had thought about Howard's advice to him more than once. If he had not been so stubborn and had really listened to Howard and left, the ending would not have been better.
