Chapter 331: Abyss Art Museum (Part )

Amuro Toru was feeling nervous when he saw a small robot staggering out of the corridor. The robot had two large forks in its hands and a wheel as its legs for walking.

Looking at the little robot walking on wheels and jumping in front of the mercenary, Toru Amuro fell silent again.

"It's a scrap robot, one of the many experimental products of the Metropolis. It seems to be very tenacious and has survived such a harsh environment." The mercenary looked down at the scrap robot that was walking towards them.

The scrap robot looked anxious. It pointed its forked hand at the mercenary, then at the end of the passage. It continued to spin in circles, even the movable parts of its head working together, trying to tell the two men something.

"Something seems wrong." The mercenary narrowed his eyes and looked at the corridor ahead.

Amuro Toru also looked at the scrap robot: "You said this is a product of Metropolis's experiments? Does that mean it went through the same batch of experiments as the people I met on the train?"

"Well, didn't you see the name of the store when I took you to the vinyl store last time?"

"The call of the abyss..."

"All the products of the Abyss series of experiments can be collectively referred to as the Abyss. The core product of Abyss Five is something called 'Star Color'."

Amuro Toru frowned. He had never read anything about the Cthulhu Mythos and didn't know much about it. "So, what function does the substance called 'Starlight Color' have?"

"If the 'Evil Eye,' a product of Abyss Two's experiments, can transform dead things into living things, then the 'Color of the Stars,' from Abyss Five, does the opposite. It drains the life force and 'color' of living things."

"So, what does this little robot want to tell us?" Toru Amuro looked at the increasingly anxious scrap robot again.

"Even if I accept the experiment, I'm not like Eli and Fiona who can understand the words of the Abyss Creatures..." The mercenary squatted down and looked at the scrap robot. "Do you want us to follow you?"

The junk robot nodded vigorously, with such force that several small screws on its body fell off.

Led by the scrap robot, the two came to an inner laboratory. This laboratory seemed to be connected to the outside world. The glass outer wall was covered with tree roots, and some of the roots had even broken through the glass and invaded the interior of the laboratory.

"These tree roots... are very strange." Amuro Toru muttered to himself as he looked at these tree roots that were obviously growing in an abnormal direction.

Generally speaking, plant roots tend to grow in areas with abundant nutrients. Only in harsh environments will plant roots find new paths, pushing through cracks in rocks or growing through sand. Obviously, this glass laboratory doesn't have these conditions, so why do tree roots extend into the laboratory?

When Toru Amuro walked deeper into the laboratory, he realized how complicated the situation was.

The roots of many trees converge here, but the roots near the center are not the normal brown, but white.

After approaching, Toru Amuro touched the white tree roots. The feeling was nothing like that of a plant. The surface of the tree roots was even very smooth, and felt more like ceramics.

"Was this done by that 'Star Color'?" Amuro Toru couldn't help but ask the mercenary.

The mercenary tapped the white tree roots gently. "It seems so, but the 'Starlight' here has been exhausted. Look, only this part of the roots has turned white..."

Before the mercenary finished speaking, some tree roots that had not turned white suddenly came alive and swept towards Amuro Toru.

Amuro Toru reacted quickly and threw a incendiary bomb in the direction where the tree roots were coming from. He clearly heard the shrill screams from the roots after they came into contact with the flames.

"Are those tree roots alive? Didn't you say that 'Starlight Color' would drain life force?" Amuro Toru pulled out his dagger and cut off some tree roots attacking from both sides, and asked the mercenary.

Surprisingly, no tree roots dared to approach the mercenaries. "I think these tree roots must have absorbed the 'Star Color', giving them similar properties to the 'Star Color'."

"This isn't going to work. These tree roots aren't attacking me; they're probably afraid of the fungus on my body." The mercenary summoned some mycelium, attempting to disperse the roots. "Hide over here first, and I'll figure out a plan later!"

Amuro Toru cut off two tree roots and dodged behind the mercenary. The mercenary then surrounded the two with white mycelium, preventing the numerous tree roots from approaching.

"No, only a small part of these tree roots have lost their color. Even if they have absorbed the power of 'Star Color', they shouldn't have such a performance. Could it be..." The mercenary looked around, as if to confirm his guess.

Sure enough, while the scrap robot was weaving through the tangled root system, it was bitten by a strange creature with a wolf's head and a snake's tail.

The scrap robot desperately stabbed its fork hands into the body of the strange creature and barely escaped.

Toru Amuro looked carefully at the strange creature. Although it had a wolf's head and a snake's tail, it only had two legs and one eye. Its entire body looked like some kind of wooden structure. The creature's skin was like old bark, and some kind of thick black slurry mixed with some golden powder seeped out of the cracks in the bark.

[Mercenary: Why does the Abyss Eight's Carrier follower seem to have grown up so much?]

[Novelist: Don't you think that being a small abyssal creature, a combination of ferocious beasts like wolves and snakes, would be less intimidating?]

[Aviator: By the way, Tracy, Luca, Mr. Alva, Mr. Balk and I have already built an enhanced version of the "Endless Vehicle."]

[Mechanic: Yes, Wendy's is planning to install air conditioning inside.]

[Gravekeeper: Inside?]

[Prisoner: Yes, when Abyss Eight was first opened, everyone thought Miss Valletta's outfit was a bit messy.]

[Hermit: Actually, it’s because of the proportion problem.]

[Crazy Eyes: Simply put, the "Endless Vehicle" is a movable vehicle, and the size displayed in the game is obviously not its actual size.]

[Bartender: Just tell me the conclusion. How big is it?]

[Meteorologist: It's as high as a two-story building.]

[Little girl: Wow, can we go camping in this big machine?]

[Reporter: Um, it seems a bit overkill to go camping with this gear.]

"What is that?" Amuro Toru looked at the ferocious creature.

"Perhaps it's a new creation from the Abyss... I don't know how aggressive it is."

"Be careful!" Toru Amuro reminded the mercenaries to pay attention to the front, because the porter had opened his mouth wide and was about to bite.

The carrier's sharp teeth embedded themselves into the mycelium released by the mercenary, and then the mycelium transformed towards the wood at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Not good!" Seeing this, the mercenary immediately severed the connection of the mycelium before the wood corroded his hands.

The broken mycelium completely turned into wood and fell to the ground with a clanging sound. The mercenary couldn't help but complain, "It seems that our research team has found a way to suppress the mycelium. However, this method was used on me first."
